What You Need to Know Before Playing the New Magic: The Gathering Expansion, Lorwyn Eclipsed

I’m so excited to return to Lorwyn and Shadowmoor! It’s a beautiful but troubled world, and I want to be fully prepared for the next chapter in the Metronome story when it releases on January 23rd. I’m looking forward to diving in and getting the most out of everything this installment has to offer.

The Lorwyn Eclipsed set celebrates the history of Magic: The Gathering with beautiful, nostalgic art by popular artist Rebecca Guay. It encourages players to explore the contrast between the bright world of Lorwyn and the shadowy realm of Shadowmoor. The set includes new creatures, spells, special cards, and exciting surprises. Collectors can also search for a rare, numbered version of the “Bitterbloom Bearer” card, also illustrated by Guay, which is only found in Collector Booster packs – just 500 copies were made!

Before the new set is released on January 23rd, Wizards of the Coast is hosting prerelease events so fans can experience the game early. Players can find specific event details at their local game stores. A special Prerelease Pack will be available, containing six Lorwyn Eclipsed booster packs, a foil promo card, a deck box, and a spindown die. These events are designed for everyone, from experienced Magic: The Gathering players to newcomers.

From January 23rd to February 26th, Wizards of the Coast is hosting two Magic Academy events to help new players learn the basics of Magic: The Gathering. One event will even focus on how to build effective decks. If you’re interested, check with your local game store for details.

After the Magic Academy festivities, the release of the Lorwyn Eclipsed set will be celebrated with several events. These include Standard Showdown competitions, Two-Headed Giant Commander Nights (a fun, multiplayer game with a limited-edition Farhaven Elf promo card available while supplies last), a Lorwyn Eclipsed Commander Party where you can test out new pre-constructed Commander decks, and other exciting activities.
