I’m lucky enough to visit theme parks and sometimes interview famous people, which makes my job pretty good. But it’s definitely not the best job out there. While it’s hard to say who deserves that title, I think James Gunn is a strong contender. Being co-CEO of DC Studios sounds amazing!
James Gunn recently answered a fan’s question about a typical day at DC Studios (which he runs with Peter Safran). He explained that no two days are ever the same – and that’s exactly what he enjoys! He then shared what a recent day involved, and it sounded like a dream come true for any DC Comics enthusiast. Gunn detailed…
What I love about this job is that every day is different! Right now, I’m mostly focused on getting ‘Man of Tomorrow’ ready – that means storyboarding, having meetings with different teams, location scouting, and casting. I also spend time reviewing cuts of ‘Supergirl’ and ‘Lanterns’, discussing marketing for all our projects, reading and annotating new scripts, and making sure the ‘Batman 2’ team has everything they need. I’m eagerly awaiting the first cut of ‘Clayface,’ and I’m constantly approving designs for various things – plus, there’s probably a lot I’m forgetting!
Each of these tasks sounds like a dream job, and James Gunn gets to do them all! Imagine having to excuse yourself from a meeting about the next Superman movie because you need to review a new cut of Supergirl – that’s a pretty great problem to have.
This is a really impressive update! It’s amazing that production on Man of Tomorrow, the next Superman movie, is moving so quickly that they’re already discussing casting. The word is that Brainiac will be the villain, so finding the right actor for that role is likely a top priority. Plus, Clayface is progressing well, with the initial edit of the film nearly complete.

HBO Max subscriptions begin at $10.99 per month. You’ll find the new DC Universe content from James Gunn, featuring Superman and the second season of Peacemaker, available now on HBO Max. Subscribe today to access it all!
Additionally, James Gunn has confirmed the team working on The Batman Part II is being well-supported. This suggests the movie, which has faced numerous delays, is truly on track to begin filming next year.
James Gunn has been reviewing new scripts, though he hasn’t shared details about which ones. We have a general idea of the projects planned for the first phase of the new DC Universe, but it’s unclear how far along most of them are in development. Some projects are clearly developed enough to have scripts, but those titles haven’t been revealed yet.
2026 promises to be an exciting year for the new DC Universe, with several movies and series planned that could build on its recent success. It’s sure to be a busy time for James Gunn as he leads the franchise.
