What’s Going On With Marvel’s Spider-Man 3?

Although not officially announced, details about a potential Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 are circulating through rumors and leaks. After a period of games tied to movie releases and quick development cycles, Spider-Man was able to thrive as a major video game thanks to a partnership between Insomniac Games and PlayStation. This collaboration has produced three critically acclaimed games that deliver a cinematic experience with compelling stories and smooth, exciting gameplay. These games have been a huge success for both Spider-Man fans and PlayStation, establishing a top-selling franchise.

The game’s success led Marvel to give Insomniac another big project: Marvel’s Wolverine, set to release next fall. This has many fans wondering what’s next for Spider-Man. Will we see more Spider-Man games, or will the character take a break?

Everything We Know About Marvel’s Spider-Man 3

While not officially announced, a third Marvel’s Spider-Man game is highly anticipated, much like a new Spider-Man movie. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 included two scenes after the credits that strongly hint at a sequel. These scenes show Norman Osborn visiting Doctor Octopus in prison, who mentions he’s working on “the final chapter.” The second scene introduces Miles Morales to Cindy Moon, also known as Silk, another Spider-Person, though she hasn’t demonstrated any superpowers yet.

A recent report from the well-known gaming site MP1st suggests that a fourth playable Spider-Man might be included in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. The report indicates that Miguel O’Hara, also known as Spider-Man 2099, could appear, possibly leading to a larger role in a future game. Given that the Spider-Verse was hinted at in Spider-Man 2, many believe he could be introduced through a side mission.

While details about the next game are still under wraps, it’s highly likely we’ll see the Green Goblin appear. Norman Osborn is seeking revenge on Spider-Man after his son was hurt in Spider-Man 2, and he plans to take action himself. It’s unclear whether he’ll become the monstrous, hulking version of the Goblin or the classic, glider-riding villain. The first game hinted at Osborn developing Green Goblin-like technology – including a helmet with a heads-up display mentioning a glider – so Insomniac Games might lean towards that version.

Many Spider-Man fans have been wondering about Peter Parker’s future. It appeared he might retire after the last game, leaving Miles Morales to protect New York. But Yuri Lowenthal, the actor who plays Peter Parker, has confirmed that Peter will still be an important character in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.

In a February 2025 interview with The Direct, Lowenthal confirmed that Peter will return in the next game and won’t be reduced to a minor role. He stated, ‘There’s not much I can say about the game, but you’ve asked the one thing I can answer: Peter is still around. He’ll be involved, and I promise he won’t be sidelined.’

So, we’re all still hyped for the next big Spider-Man game, but it’s been a while! There was talk of a smaller game coming out in the meantime, kind of like Miles Morales, to hold us over. That hasn’t happened yet, though, even after two years. When Insomniac got hacked last year, we found out they were actually planning a Venom game! It’s a bit weird since Venom didn’t have a huge role in Spider-Man 2 and got taken care of pretty quickly, but apparently the idea was to make a smaller, self-contained Venom experience between the big Spider-Man stories.

I’m still holding out hope for a Venom game! A report from MP1st earlier this year suggested it’s still in the works, which is awesome. Apparently, the story might see Harry Osborn pass the Venom symbiote on to Eddie Brock, and Cletus Kasady – who showed up in a side quest in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – could be the main villain. We don’t know much else, but it would be a really cool way to keep us occupied while we wait for the next Spider-Man adventure.

When Will We See Marvel’s Spider-Man 3?

Don’t expect Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 for a while – it’s probably a couple of years off. Insomniac Games is currently focused on Marvel’s Wolverine, which is scheduled for 2026. However, they’re likely also working on the next Spider-Man game. The earliest we might see it is 2027, but 2028 seems more realistic – that would be five years after Spider-Man 2. This could mean it’s a PlayStation 6 game, though Insomniac might also release it on PS5, unlike Spider-Man 2 which was only for PS5, given the PS5’s greater capabilities.

Don’t expect to learn anything about the next Spider-Man game until after Wolverine is released. There’s a chance Wolverine might hint at what’s coming next for Spider-Man, but that depends on whether Marvel and Insomniac want to take attention away from their upcoming game about the clawed hero.
