Ryan Seacrest finally had the chance to make someone a millionaire.
During the September 30th episode of Wheel of Fortune, the show’s host had the exciting opportunity to give away a million-dollar prize for the very first time-a feat that has only happened five times in the show’s entire history.
The fortunate winner was Christina Derevjanik, and she took home a substantial $1,035,155. She also received additional prizes, such as a “luxurious cabin retreat” in Montana and a trip to Tokyo.
I was absolutely thrilled when Christina grabbed that million-dollar game piece! And then, seeing her beat out all the other contestants to make it to the final round was incredible – she had a real shot at winning everything. The final category was “Living Things,” and I couldn’t believe it when she nailed the answer – a “Pack of Coyotes”! It was such a fantastic moment, and I was so happy for her. She really deserved it!
When confetti began to fall after the correct answer was revealed, Christina gave Ryan a big, excited hug. She then hugged Vanna White while the host officially announced the result.
“I’m in tears,” Ryan told Christina and Vanna, holding up her last artwork and exclaiming “one million” as the audience cheered. He then continued, “You’re a millionaire!”
With his arm around her, she smiled in shock and happy tears as Ryan announced her final total.
“Congratulations,” Ryan told her. “You’re my first $1 million dollar winner.”
He then quipped, “I have to wipe a tear off my eye!”
Christina, from Stamford, Connecticut, mentioned she enjoys hiking with her dog, running, and relaxing by the water with a glass of wine in her introduction. She’s quite the runner, having completed 11 half-marathons and one full marathon! However, on most weeknights, you’ll find her enjoying a simple pleasure: “8 p.m., glass of wine, Hallmark channel.”
The most recent winner of $1 million on the show was Melissa Joan Hart on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune in 2021. Prior to that, Sarah Manchester won the top prize in 2014. Before her, Autumn Erhard was the winner in 2013, and Michelle Loewenstein won it back in 2008.
