Guillermo del Toro is known for creating magical and unique films like Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water. However, he’s always wanted to bring two famous stories to life in his own way: Pinocchio and Frankenstein.
Guillermo del Toro achieved one long-held goal in 2022 with the release of his beautiful stop-motion animated film, based on the classic story of Pinocchio, on Netflix. Now, Netflix is also supporting his next ambitious project.
Guillermo del Toro’s new film, based on Mary Shelley’s classic novel *Frankenstein*, features Oscar Isaac as the scientist Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as his creation. The movie also stars Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and David Bradley, among others.
The film received positive reviews at the Venice Film Festival in late August, including a 5-star rating from us who called it a beautifully told, heartbreaking story. It’s expected to resonate with the director’s established fanbase and may be a contender during awards season.
Similar to other films Netflix hopes will win awards, Frankenstein will have a short run in movie theaters before becoming available on Netflix. Here’s when you can watch it at home.
When is Frankenstein released on Netflix?
Good news for those eager to watch – I’ve just learned it’s hitting Netflix on Friday, November 7th. The wait isn’t going to be very long at all!
That’s three weeks after the film came out in theaters on Friday, October 17th. It’s a bit longer of a wait than usual, but not a significant delay.
If you can, we highly recommend watching this film in theaters while it’s playing there. Guillermo del Toro’s incredible sets and beautiful design truly deserve to be experienced on the largest screen possible.
It won’t be playing in most major movie theaters nationwide, but it’s worth checking your local cinemas to see if they’re showing it.
