The latest episode of Casualty, the final part of the ‘Supply and Demand’ series, was packed with drama.
A surprising turn of events in the latest episode led many viewers to believe Ngozi Okoye’s character had died, as her attempt to leave Holby City with her son Obi ended in tragedy.
Following a setback with her alcohol dependency just before their flight, Ngozi suffered a head injury at the airport. The episode concluded with the team rushing to help her at the hospital.
The ‘Casualty’ story arc ‘Supply and Demand’ covered the last four episodes of season 39 and the first eight episodes of season 40.
So, wondering when season 40 is set to resume? Read on for everything we know so far.
When will Casualty return?
The BBC has confirmed Casualty is set to return at the end of the year.
Although the show is currently on hold, the BBC has offered a preview of the next season, showcasing dramatic rescues, emotional moments, intense action, and some new faces joining the cast.

As a long-time fan, I was surprised to hear the BBC announce a big shift for the show! They confirmed back in May that after 40 seasons, the action is moving out of the familiar fictional city of Holby and relocating to a new setting in Wales. It’s a pretty huge change, and I’m definitely curious to see how it plays out.
According to a BBC document from that period, they requested that proposals genuinely portray Wales and accurately reflect the state of the Welsh National Health Service.
We’re not planning a complete overhaul of the show, but it will now feature a hospital setting in Wales. When submitting proposals, production companies should clearly explain how their ideas will reflect this new Welsh focus to the judging panel.
The winning bidder must show they can include Welsh representation while still keeping things easily recognizable.
The BBC stated that moving production to Wales will allow for new actors to join the show, while also assuring fans that familiar characters will still be featured as the show transitions to its new setting at the Welsh hospital.
I’m really excited to hear that *Casualty* is coming back to BBC One and iPlayer towards the end of 2025! If you’re already a fan, or just curious, you can actually catch up on older episodes right now on iPlayer – perfect for a binge-watch!
