When Will Zootopia 2 Release on Disney+? (There’s One Major Clue)

As a huge animation fan, I’m thrilled to see Zootopia 2 is already breaking records at the box office! It just launched in theaters and early numbers suggest it’s going to be massive – we’re talking potentially over a billion dollars worldwide! Everyone seems to be planning a trip to the cinema to see it this holiday season, which is amazing. But, naturally, a lot of us are already wondering when it’ll hit Disney+ so we can enjoy it again and again from the comfort of our couches.

As expected, Disney hasn’t said when Zootopia 2 will hit Disney+ yet – they’re really pushing the theatrical release right now, which makes sense. But if you look at how they’ve handled similar movies in the past, especially one in particular, we can probably get a pretty good idea of when it’ll be streaming. I’m already counting down the days!

When Will Zootopia 2 Hit Disney+?

Disney generally releases its movies on Disney+ about three months after they come out in theaters. Here’s a look at when some of their biggest films will be available for streaming, with the original theater release dates shown in parentheses.

  • Captain America: Brave New World — May 28th (February 14th)
  • Snow White — June 11th (March 21st)
  • Thunderbolts* — August 27th (May 2nd)
  • Lilo & Stitch — September 3rd (May 23rd)
  • Elio — September 17th (June 20th)
  • The Fantastic Four: First Steps — November 5th (July 25th)

How long it takes for movies to appear on Disney+ changes each time. Some arrive in less than three months, while others take a bit longer. Considering this, we can estimate that Zootopia 2 won’t be on Disney+ until late February or early March. Since the movie premiered on November 26th, three months would be around February 26th.

It’s worth remembering these movies were already available to rent or buy digitally on platforms like Apple and Amazon before coming to Disney+. Disney doesn’t want to lose money by offering them on Disney+ at the same time, knowing people will pay to rewatch them right away. They’re maximizing profits by letting people rent or buy first.

Disney Could Repeat the Moana 2 Playbook for Zootopia 2

Looking at how Disney has released movies this year can give us clues about when we might see Zootopia 2. A good example to consider is Moana 2. Like a potential Zootopia sequel, Moana 2 was released in theaters over Thanksgiving weekend and earned a lot of money. It came out on November 27, 2024, and became available on Disney+ on March 12th.

It will be about 3 months and 13 days between when Moana 2 is in theaters and when it’s available on Disney+. This timeframe is consistent with what Disney has been doing with its other 2025 releases. Interestingly, how well a movie performs in theaters doesn’t seem to affect when it becomes available to stream – whether it’s a huge success or doesn’t do well commercially, it generally appears on Disney+ after roughly three months.

If everything stays on schedule, Zootopia 2 should be available on Disney+ around March 11, 2026, roughly three months and thirteen days after it hits theaters. However, this is just an estimate until Disney officially confirms the release date.
