Where was Black Rabbit filmed?

Black Rabbit was shot entirely in New York City from April to September 2024. Filming took place throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn (including Coney Island), Queens, and the West Village.

Filming took place at several distinct locations, including the now-defunct Bridge Café, inside the historic Russian & Turkish Baths, the bustling Times Square, and the lobby of Bellevue Hospital.

Kate Susman, one of the show’s creators, explained to Vanity Fair that they aimed to portray a realistic New York City – the grittier, downtown areas, rather than the polished, glamorous version often seen on screen. They wanted to show the city as it is experienced by those who actually live there.

Zach Baylin, who co-created the show, explained that the restaurant featured in the story was inspired by real places in the city, such as Dressler. He noted that the owner of Dressler had a difficult and complex personal history.

He went on to explain that places like Waverly Inn and Minetta Tavern weren’t just restaurants, but hubs where artists, writers, and musicians came together and connected with each other.

We hoped this would feel so real, you’d question your memories and think, ‘Did I actually experience this? Was I really there? I think I was.’
