Although Elizabeth Bennet is a beloved character, she’s received a lot of attention over the years. This new story, fittingly called The Other Bennet Sister, shifts the focus to her less-known sister, Mary, giving her a chance to shine.
Ella Bruccoleri (known from Call the Midwife and Bridgerton) plays the lead role in this 10-episode BBC series, adapted from Janice Hadlow’s novel. The story follows the middle Bennet sister, who is often ignored and underestimated, as she ventures out from her family to experience life in Regency London and the beautiful landscapes of the Lake District.
That’s where the character truly blossoms, finding her voice and, unexpectedly, stumbling into a really grand romance. It’s a lovely turning point, and honestly, a highlight of the film.
According to Bruccoleri, Mary spent her youth wanting to be like Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, but only found her own identity when she stopped trying to emulate her.
Bruccoleri appears in the series with well-known actors Ruth Jones and Richard E Grant, who play Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. The cast filmed the series in Wales.
But where, exactly, were they based?
Read on for a rundown of the main locations in The Other Bennet Sister.
The Other Bennet Sister filming locations

The Other Bennet Sister was predominantly filmed in Wales.
Key locations included:
- Dyffryn House and Gardens, Vale of Glamorgan – the poetry reading scene was filmed in the Pompeian Garden.
- St Fagans National Museum of History, Cardiff.
- Llancaiach Fawr Manor, Caerphilly – the museum doubled as the inside of the inn.
- Penpont House, Brecon – doubled as Meryton Village.
- Brecon Beacons – the boat scenes on Lake Windermere were filmed on a private lake in the Brecon Beacons, and Scafell Pyke mountain was actually the Black Mountains.
- Longbourne is actually a private house in Bridgend.
Ella Bruccoleri told Country and Town House that she “loved” filming in Wales.
She was incredibly impressed, saying it felt like a completely new discovery. Even after just one visit, she was amazed and declared it the most beautiful country she’d ever seen.
We filmed in the Brecon Beacons and several stunning lakes to stand in for the Lake District. It was truly breathtaking. Dónal Finn and I even spent entire days rowing on the lakes while the crew filmed us in the sunshine – it was an incredible experience.
For Ruth Jones, it was a homecoming.
It’s just wonderful being back in Wales! Seeing so many familiar faces from the crew – people I’ve worked with before – really fills me with pride. We’re making something special here, and it’s amazing to be doing it in Wales.
“Locations like St Fagans Folk Museum are places I’ve known since childhood.”
Filming also took place in Bristol, specifically on Orchard Street, which was used to represent Cheapside in London, close to St Paul’s Cathedral.
The Other Bennet Sister premieres on BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday 15 March 2026.
