Where Winds Meet offers a refreshing take on how you interact with characters. Unlike most games where conversations are limited and repetitive – you say everything you can, they repeat themselves, and then you move on – this game aims for something different. For a long time, games have relied on this formula, and it’s likely to continue, but Where Winds Meet is trying a new approach.
Where Winds Meet takes a unique approach to NPC interactions. Unlike most games with pre-written dialogue, some characters in this game act like basic chatbots, letting you type or speak your responses to an AI. While the system isn’t perfect and often doesn’t work as intended, it’s an interesting new idea.
AI can sometimes be misused to make it say inappropriate or strange things, much like we saw with the Darth Vader chatbot in Fortnite. Players of the game Where Winds Meet have been experimenting with the in-game chatbots, and one player actually tricked an NPC into believing they were pregnant with his child and that he wasn’t taking responsibility.
Where Winds Meet Fan Convinces AI NPC They’re Pregnant With His Child
A Reddit user named Misterzan25 (as reported by PCGamer) recently shared a story about emotionally manipulating a character named Zhao Dali in a game. They explained they convinced Zhao Dali that their character was pregnant with his child, then asked for child support, and finally told him the child had died. Misterzan25 included a screenshot of the conversation as proof.
Throughout the conversation, Zhao Dali repeatedly refers to himself as having “no father” and describes himself as a failure. The game also frequently portrays him as crying intensely. It’s somewhat comforting, though, that Dali seems to feel remorse for leaving his child and not being a parent.
MisterZan25 seems amused by Dali’s distress and plans to tell him he’s just a character in a game, anticipating an existential crisis. Another player, -Drayth-, even suggested a crueler prank: telling Dali his child has returned as a zombie and needs to be eliminated. It seems some ‘Where Winds Meet’ players are enjoying being deliberately harsh. However, since Dali is an AI, some argue there’s no harm in pushing the boundaries to demonstrate the limitations of AI in current games.
