Where Winds Meet now has over 15 million players and is set to add Brazilian Portuguese support

  • Where Winds Meet has raked in over 15 million players since launch
  • It’s a huge spike after just under a month since release
  • And soon, Brazilian Portuguese players can enjoy native language support

Just a few years ago, NetEase had a bad reputation in China. Similar to Electronic Arts, they were known for releasing visually appealing games that ultimately disappointed players and felt like money grabs. But things have changed dramatically – their recent free-to-play games are not only profitable, but are actually well-received and enjoyable for players.

Where Winds Meet is a popular martial arts RPG inspired by wuxia stories. In the game, you play as a kung-fu master seeking to learn about their history, and it’s already attracted over 15 million players since its release earlier in the year.

NetEase is also adding support for more languages, like Brazilian Portuguese, which will allow even more players to experience the game’s unique Chinese historical world. This growth shows just how popular Where Winds Meet has become in less than a month.

High kicks and fancy hair

Where Winds Meet does have its issues, my mobile-sceptic friend tells me. But I think it’s notable that these issues mainly relate to things like UI and not the content itself. Coming hot off the heels of their huge hit in the form of Marvel Rivals and Once Human, it seems NetEase is making waves.

Look, everyone knew they totally dominated the Chinese gaming scene, which is why people were always complaining about how they did business. But lately, they seem to have chilled out on the aggressive monetization, and honestly, it’s paying off. We’re seeing them succeed more outside of China, and they’re actually releasing some really creative and interesting games now. It’s a good change!

Despite a few minor problems, 2025 has been a fantastic year for mobile gaming. If you’re wondering what the best games have been so far, check out our constantly updated list!
