Everstone Studio, the team behind Where Winds Meet, has shared details about the upcoming Chapter 2 of the Hexi expansion. They announced what players can look forward to in the major update, but also warned that some features will be temporarily offline as the update is released.
Okay, so chapter 2 is going to drop us in Liangzhou, a brand new zone! You’ll unlock it after finishing the Hexi Campaign – specifically, the Whitecrown Fortress quest. From what I’ve heard, it’s a really cool change of scenery – think snowy landscapes and a city built like a jade cup! Apparently, it feels totally different from Jade Gate Pass, which is awesome because it keeps things fresh. I’m really excited to explore it!
Once you’ve completed the necessary setup, you can start ‘Lost Chapter: Ten Through the Pass’ to unlock the Liangzhou region. While exploring, you’ll discover Liangzhou poems, which you can collect to earn rewards like Echo Jade and the recipe for the Snowy Stone Lantern, plus other items, through the Gilt-Fin Collection.
Okay, so the update just dropped a new zone, and with it comes the next part of the main story! It’s called ‘Hexi Main Chapter – A Lonely Moon Over Chang’an.’ You’ll need to be at least level 14 and finish the ‘Hexi Main Chapter: The Burlap Sack’ questline to jump in. Basically, it’s about this musician who returns to his hometown, Chang’an, after a tough journey, and everything feels different and… well, lonely. Sounds kinda emotional, honestly, and I’m definitely curious to see how it plays out.
This update includes Chapter 3 of the story, called “Paper Moon,” which focuses on characters’ shared desire to reach Chang’an. Players can earn rewards like the Paper Moon Accessory and the Observe Freedom Inscription, plus other items.
The game features many optional quests, including the continuing Jianghu Legacy storyline (volumes 4 & 5) and a new mystery called “Death of the Governor,” set in a spooky, snow-covered mansion. Players can also challenge a powerful new World Boss, the Moongazing Maiden, in Liangzhou. Defeating her for the first time earns you the Swaying Jade Osmanthus helmet and the Verdant Sonata accessory. You can earn even more rewards by repeatedly challenging the boss through Sword Forge Challenges.
Two new challenging bosses, the Everdeer and the Pocketrupt Circus, are being added alongside the Moongazing Maiden. Like other world bosses, you’ll get special rewards the first time you defeat them, and cosmetic items for repeated victories. Once you reach level 86 and have a team assembled, you can tackle the new end-game challenge, Bloodstained Sands.
Players can now join the Raging Tides sect at level 10 to unlock new outfits and decorations for their characters. Joining also allows you to learn a new martial art called Stonesplit – Strength, which includes powerful new moves like the Phalanxbane Blade and Snowparting Blade.
If you enjoy games that aren’t about fighting, try Landlords mode in Wandering Paths—a new card game for three players. You’ll need to be level 32 and have finished the quest “New Arrival in Kaifeng – Begin the Journey” in the Kaifeng Main Chapter to play.
Where Winds Meet is a game you can download and play for free on PC, PlayStation 5, Android, and iOS devices. You can find our latest impressions of the Hexi expansion if you’d like to learn more.
