Which Creature Commandos Characters Will We See in the Live-Action DCU?

The inaugural season of “Creature Commandos” has concluded, sparking anticipation among fans about the future direction of this freshly minted DC Universe. A key aspect that piques interest in this franchise is James Gunn’s early announcement that actors will continue to portray their characters across various formats. This means that voice actors from the animated series may make an appearance as the same characters in live-action productions, provided their characters are featured in upcoming films or television shows.

In simpler terms, the question asks about the potential future appearances of Creature Commandos characters beyond their original animated series, as fans are keen on seeing them in live-action DC movies or shows. However, it remains unclear how many of these characters may continue to be part of the franchise outside of the Creature Commandos team.

Luckily, some of these queries have solutions we’ve previously encountered. At least one Commando character is set to star in not one, but two distinct live-action productions slated for release in the year 2025.

Rick Flag Sr.

Among the Creature Commandos characters, there’s one we are fairly confident will feature prominently in the DC Universe’s future. Actor Frank Grillo has been cast as Rick Flag Sr., and he is scheduled to appear in the initial three projects of the DCU.

Following his initial appearance in Creature Commandos, Grillo is set to reprise his role as the older Rick Flag in the second series of Peacemaker, and also in James Gunn’s Superman film, due for release in theaters the following summer.

The Leftovers (Waller, Economos, Weasel)

Viola Davis, Steve Agee, and Sean Gunn moved from the previous DC era to the current one, similar to many characters from Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad. In other words, these actors have previously appeared in live-action roles.

In the upcoming season, Weasel might not show up until “Creature Commandos” Season 2. However, we can expect Economos to appear in Season 2 of “Peacemaker,” and it’s probable that Waller will also be featured there. Furthermore, Waller is slated for a solo spinoff series in the future.

G.I. Robot

Among the unannounced characters from the Creature Commandos series, it seems that G.I. Robot is the one most likely to appear in a live-action role in the near future. This prediction can be attributed to Daniel Craig and Luca Guadagnino.

Sgt. Rock was a comrade to G.I. Robot during World War II. Interestingly, this character makes an appearance in the third episode of ‘Creature Commandos’, specifically within the flashback scenes involving G.I. Robot. In this episode, Sgt. Rock’s voice was lent by Maury Sterling.

The news emerged towards the end of last year that Guadagnino was set to direct a live-action Sgt. Rock film, with Craig playing the lead character. However, when Sterling was working on Creature Commandos, the Sgt. Rock movie project had not yet been initiated.

The Bride and Frankenstein

In a live-action setting, it’s these two characters from the animated series “Creature Commandos” that fans are eagerly anticipating. Notably, “Game of Thrones” actress Indira Varma lends her voice to The Bride, while the role of Frankenstein is voiced by David Harbour, who’s also known for his roles in “Stranger Things” and the upcoming “Thunderbolts*“.

(*Please note that Thunderbolts is a Marvel Cinematic Universe team, and it seems there might be some confusion or misinformation regarding David Harbour’s involvement.)

In simple terms, both characters were spot-on in their roles during Creature Commandos’ first season, and audiences grew fond of them. However, at this point, neither character has been confirmed to appear in any upcoming live-action productions.

In simple terms, the second season of “Peacemaker” might feature both characters, considering Rick Flag Sr.’s and the Belle Reve staff’s involvement. Additionally, there’s a chance Frankenstein could appear in Mike Flanagan’s 2026 movie, “Clayface.” Previously, these two characters had confrontations during “Creature Commandos,” which could inspire more story development in the upcoming film.

For now, though, there’s nothing official for the fan-favorite monsters.
