Shortly after the introductory scenes in Ghost of Yōtei, you’ll have the freedom to choose which of three targets to eliminate first – The Oni, The Kitsune, or The Saito Brothers. You can tackle them in any order you prefer.
Okay, so as a fan, I’m always wondering which of the Ghost of Yōtei quests to jump into first. If you’re like me and want to get some seriously cool-looking armour as early as possible in the game, I’d definitely say there’s one of those three that stands out above the rest. It’s a real game-changer!
With that in mind, Yōtei is a game focused on giving you freedom and letting you make your own choices, so trust your instincts rather than blindly following advice from someone online. However, if you’d like a little help, keep reading!
Should you start with The Oni, The Kitsune or The Saito Brothers in Ghost of Yōtei?
When Ghost of Yōtei presents you with the option to pursue The Oni, The Kitsune, or The Saito Brothers, we highly advise completing The Kitsune mission initially.
Just so you know, all three of these quests are made up of several steps and will likely take a few hours to finish. Each one will have you traveling to various locations on the map, and the specific opportunities you encounter will change based on which quest you start with first.
So, why do we suggest completing The Kitsune mission before others? There are several reasons, but the biggest one is simple: prioritizing this mission chain will reward you with some really cool armour.
The main image at the top of this article shows Atsu wearing her impressive black Nine Tail armour. You can get this armour for free while completing The Kitsune mission.
This armour is used by the shinobi clan from Teshio Ridge (you’ll gain access to and investigate this region during The Kitsune mission series), and it’s specifically made for stealth.

An armour set that improves your stealth abilities? That’s going to be really useful if you like playing stealthily. You’ll also be able to get smoke bombs for the first time while completing The Kitsune mission.
On top of that, speaking of stealthy perks…
While completing the Kitsune mission, you’ll also receive guidance on how to unlock Kunai throwing knives.
When you reach Hana’s Farm on Teshio Ridge – which is the main setting for The Kitsune quest – you’ll discover how to use Kunai. After that, you’ll also be able to purchase them.

The Kitsune quest offers additional advantages, too. The storyline within this questline is full of exciting surprises, demonstrating the skill of the Yōtei writing team. Plus, completing the quest puts you in the perfect location to obtain the Kusarigama melee weapon!
So, after thinking everything through, I’d totally suggest starting with The Kitsune quest when you get to this part of the game. It’s especially good if you’re hoping to play like a sneaky shinobi – you know, all stealth and shadows. Seriously, it’s a great place to begin!
Naturally, every way you choose to play is perfectly fine, so don’t feel limited by our suggestions! Play the game however *you* enjoy, and it’s okay to wander off or get sidetracked. That’s simply part of what makes it enjoyable. Explore and have fun!
