Who are Andrew and Molly? Meet Race Across the World 2026 contestants

Okay, cinephiles, mark your calendars! I’m already clearing my Thursday nights at 8pm because Race Across the World is back on BBC One for another season – and trust me, it’s going to be a wild ride.

Tonight, starting April 2nd, viewers will meet five adventurous pairs as they begin an incredible journey following sections of the historic Silk Road.

Andrew and his daughter Molly were particularly worried about being able to complete the race. They were one of the pairs who felt the most nervous.

Molly explained to TopMob that they were focused on simply performing well. They believed success would come eventually, but they were unsure about the exact path to get there.

Who are Andrew and Molly?

Relationship: Father and daughter

Molly, a 23-year-old junior doctor, and her father, Andrew, 54, have a strong relationship. However, as Molly starts her career, she’s eager to show her dad she’s more competent than he believes.

The duo didn’t have a detailed plan for the race; their main goal was simply to achieve the fastest time possible.

Andrew said he and his team are constantly preparing, but there’s still a lot of uncertainty. ‘You never quite know what to expect or what you’ll need,’ he told the BBC before the race.

We haven’t really focused on strategy; we’re more interested in immersing ourselves in the culture and enjoying the experience. Winning isn’t our main goal – it’s about what we learn along the way. However, we’re all naturally competitive, and that will likely surface when the time is right.

Molly explained that simply competing and giving their all is more important than actually winning. They’re naturally competitive and will always try their hardest, regardless of the outcome – whether they finish last or first. This trip also represents a new experience for them, as they haven’t traveled this way before.

“We don’t know languages so we’re maybe on the back foot in comparison to the other couples.”

Why did Andrew and Molly sign up for Race Across the World?

Andrew originally suggested they apply for Race Across the World, assuming their application wouldn’t be successful.

I submitted the form, but with Molly taking her final exams, we didn’t really expect anything to come of it,” Andrew explained to TopMob. “We certainly never imagined we’d be selected.

You know, my friend Molly and her dad always called their whole trip “a joke that got out of hand.” But before you knew it, they were actually on a plane to Italy, about to embark on what sounded like the adventure of a lifetime!

You know, when I was watching the movie, Molly explained to TopMob that their whole thing was living with whatever decision they made in the moment. No second-guessing, no blaming each other for bad calls – it was just about trusting their instincts and dealing with the consequences, whatever they were. It was a really intense way to operate, honestly.
