Who are Francoise and Isaac in Wednesday season 2?

**Warning: Full spoilers ahead for Wednesday season 2.**

Finally, we’re back at Nevermore for more chaos, misfortune and woe.

Wednesday season 2 part 2 has also introduced us to some very intriguing new characters.

In the previous part, the patients from Willow Hill managed to break free, with Wednesday assisting a enigmatic woman in exiting her cell and venturing into the darkness of the night. Additionally, Tyler (Hunter Doohan) successfully fled in his Hyde form, while Slurp, Pugsley’s zombie companion, continued his rampage of violence.

It turns out that Francoise, Isaac, and the entire Galpin and Night family are more closely connected than one might initially think. If you’re tuning into the latest installments of Netflix’s popular fantasy series, here’s a breakdown of Francoise, Isaac, and – for good measure – the current understanding of the Galpin and Night family lineage.

It is yet uncertain if they will cause more chaos in the third season of Wednesday, which has already been confirmed for a Wednesday release. For now, let’s explore their part in season 2 instead.

Who are Francoise and Isaac in Wednesday season 2?

Francoise Night, or as you may know her now, Francoise Galpin, is Tyler’s mother. She was previously married to Sheriff Donovan Galpin, portrayed by Jamie McShane. Like Tyler, Francoise is also a Hyde. However, an interesting fact unfolds in season 2 – unlike male Hydes, female Hydes can live independently without a master.

Isaac Night, Francoise’s exceptionally talented brother, takes on the unusual role as the actual living being behind Pugsley’s zombie companion Slurp. He’s more like a Da Vinci among outsiders, possessing telekinetic abilities.

Following his escape from Willow Hill, Slurp embarks on another destructive rampage, yet these killings serve a specific purpose. With each brain he consumes, he gradually regains his human form. Eventually, after devouring the unfortunate Professor Orloff (Christopher Lloyd), he fully transforms once more into his original self, Isaac, restoring both his intellectual abilities and his memories.

Then, we learn more about the pair’s unsettling backstory.

At the school known as Nevermore, Isaac, one of the students, constructed a device with the aim of alleviating Francoise’s affliction, for being a Hyde often meant certain doom. However, he required assistance in this endeavor, and it was then that Gomez Addams, a young man at the time, entered the scene to lend his hand.

Due to Gomez possessing electrical powers similar to Pugsley’s, Isaac instructed him to power the machine, fully aware that this would result in Gomez’s demise. However, Morticia managed to rescue Gomez. Unfortunately, the experiment ended up destroying the machine, leading to Isaac’s death, and stripping Gomez of his electrical abilities.

In order to keep their secret hidden, Gomez and Morticia (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones) covertly interred little Isaac in the Nevermore Cemetery. That was before their son Pugsley inadvertently resurrected him as a zombie known as Slurp.

While Francoise led an ordinary life before Tyler’s birth, her struggle with postnatal depression triggered a darker side of her personality, leading to her being admitted to Willow Hill. Previously thought to have passed away in the hospital, it was revealed that Morticia had even attended her funeral.

In fact, Francoise had been held captive within the LOIS program, which was overseen by Augustus Stonehearst’s daughter Judi, portrayed by Heather Matarazzo, for a significant period of time.

After fleeing Willow Hill, I found myself reuniting with Tyler once more. Now, my thoughts are consumed by one sole purpose – ensuring that Tyler is freed from becoming a Hyde, enabling him to lead a life free from such turbulence.

Upon reaching Nevermore again, Francoise and Isaac seize hold of Pugsley due to his electric abilities and compel Tyler into the device. However, before they finish their objective, the Addams Family intervenes and halts them.

Despite initially being Isaac’s possession, Thing later became Wednesday’s right-hand man. However, before Isaac could reattach Thing to his wrist, it betrayed him by tearing out his heart, thus showing its allegiance to the Addams family instead.

In another location, an angry Tyler pursues his mother relentlessly, leading to a violent altercation that ends tragically as Francoise falls from the edge of Iago Tower to her demise.

Who plays Francoise and Isaac in Wednesday season 2?

Francoise is played by Frances O’Connor.

This British-Australian actress has made a name for herself by taking on diverse characters such as Peggy Hodgson from the Conjuring series, Rose Selfridge in Mr Selfridge, and Gwendolen in The Importance of Being Earnest, among others.

In my movie-reviewing persona, I’d say: “Owen Painter delivers a captivating performance as Isaac Night – a role he’s best known for, having brought his unique talent to the screen as Young Lucas in Tiny Beautiful Things and Jaden in The Handmaid’s Tale.
