I’ve been following the buzz around Quentin Tarantino‘s recent interview with Bret Easton Ellis, and it’s fascinating to see people respond to his comments. Matthew Lillard, who you probably know from Scream and Scooby-Doo, is one of those who Tarantino talked about, especially since Lillard’s been out promoting Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. He seems like he’s handling it pretty well, but he admitted it still stung a little to hear those criticisms.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Matthew Lillard recently spoke at GalaxyCon about Quentin Tarantino’s list of favorite 21st-century films. After mentioning There Will Be Blood and Midnight in Paris, Lillard jokingly admitted he doesn’t particularly like actors Paul Dano or Owen Wilson, who star in those films. Despite not appearing in either movie himself, Tarantino had previously included Lillard on a list of actors he doesn’t favor, stating he also doesn’t care for Dano or Wilson. Lillard then shared this anecdote with the audience at the convention.
“Quentin Tarantino this week said he didn’t like me as an actor. Eh, whatever. Who gives a sh*t.
It’s really upsetting and frustrating. You’d never say something like that to a famous actor like Tom Cruise, someone well-respected in Hollywood. I’m popular here, in this setting, but that’s not the case in Hollywood overall. It’s a completely different world, and it’s a humbling, painful realization.
Matthew Lillard Is Enjoying a Much-Deserved Resurgence
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Matthew Lillard frequently played oddball characters, which solidified the type of roles he became known for after his appearances in films like Hackers and Scream. While he continued to act in smaller films, his career eventually slowed down, and he became most recognizable as the voice of Shaggy in various Scooby-Doo animated projects.
Damian Lillard is enjoying a well-deserved career boost. He first showed his range as an actor in 2017 with a role in Twin Peaks: The Return, proving he wasn’t limited to comedic parts. He revisited the horror genre with Five Nights at Freddy’s, then landed a memorable role in The Life of Chuck directed by horror master Mike Flanagan. He’s set to appear in Flanagan’s upcoming TV series adaptation of Carrie, and will also be in the second season of the Marvel show Daredevil: Born Again.
Despite his diverse career, Matthew Lillard is most excited to return to the role that made him famous – the villain Stu Macher in the Scream franchise. He’ll be reprising the part in Scream 7, a new installment that’s essentially rebooting the series. While details are still under wraps about how Stu will be back, Lillard himself is thrilled about the opportunity and hopes fans will be too. He says he’s confident the script and cast are excellent and believes the movie will be a success.
