Each year, the Eurovision Song Contest is famous for its unexpected moments, so UK fans were surprised to learn that Boy George was involved in this year’s event – representing a country other than the United Kingdom.
After it came out that Boy George secretly worked on San Marino’s Eurovision song, ‘Superhuman,’ people began wondering if he would actually perform it for the country during the competition.
San Marino has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 15 times without achieving a top result. This year, they’re sending SENHIT, a returning contestant who has competed three times before, hoping to finally climb higher in the rankings.
Could Boy George be the key to San Marino’s success? Here’s a look at his connection to the country and the Eurovision competition as we await the results.
Who is Boy George representing at Eurovision 2026?
Although Boy George isn’t competing for a country, he will be performing as part of San Marino’s entry in Eurovision this year.
Since artists aren’t required to be citizens of the country they perform for, Boy George can team up with Senhit without any problems – but will they actually perform together on stage?
Is Boy George performing at Eurovision 2026?

Currently, Boy George is anticipated to perform alongside Senhit during her rendition of Superstar.
Senhit told Eurovision Fun that Boy George would definitely be joining her on stage during the competition.
She mentioned she’d spoken with Boy George and plans to meet with him next week – he’s currently touring in America – to begin discussing the show’s staging and other production details.
He was thrilled about the chance to perform in Vienna and immediately agreed to participate, promising to be on stage. You’ll definitely see him there, without a doubt.
What has Boy George said about Eurovision 2026?
Last month, Boy George addressed criticism about his participation in Eurovision, explaining that he’s had close Jewish friends since his teens.
People are asking if I’ll abandon my Jewish friends because of my principles, and the answer is absolutely not. I will always stand by them.
Throughout my career, I’ve always worn a Star of David – if you look back at old photos of Culture Club, you’ll see it. I feel a really strong connection to Jewish people and culture. Honestly, I don’t really get involved in political debates about Israel; I don’t have a strong opinion either way. But for me, the whole point of making music is to bring people together, to unite us all.

The Eurovision Song Contest has received a lot of criticism for letting Israel compete this year, given the current war happening in Gaza.
Several countries are choosing not to participate in the contest this year because the organization in charge, the European Broadcasting Union, decided against banning Israel from competing.
In December 2025, the EBU held a meeting where members voted to establish rules preventing governments or outside groups from unfairly boosting certain songs to sway voting results. However, they did not vote on whether Israel would be allowed to participate.
The European Broadcasting Union announced that most of its members decided another vote on whether to participate wasn’t necessary. They confirmed the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest will go ahead as scheduled, with extra safety measures added.
After that announcement, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland all stated they would not be competing in Eurovision this year.
Ireland’s public broadcaster, RTÉ, has stated that it believes it’s inappropriate for Ireland to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest this year, considering the devastating loss of life and ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which continues to endanger civilians.
The BBC, the UK broadcaster for the competition, backs the EBU’s decision. In a statement, they explained it’s about following the competition rules and ensuring everyone feels welcome.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 final will take place on Saturday 16 May 2026.
