The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, will introduce the child of Captain America and Peggy Carter. While details have been kept under wraps, the comics offer clues about this new character’s potential role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After much speculation and denials from Chris Evans about his involvement, it’s now confirmed that Steve Rogers will return in the 2026 film – and with a surprising development.
The initial trailer for Avengers: Doomsday appeared in theaters alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash and featured a return to the home Steve Rogers visited at the end of Avengers: Endgame, where he reunited with Peggy Carter. Although Hayley Atwell, who plays Peggy, wasn’t in the trailer, Steve was shown holding a baby – presumably his child with Peggy. This baby is likely to play a significant role in future Marvel Cinematic Universe stories, and comic books may offer clues about their importance.
There Are Two Steve Rogers Sons For Avengers: Doomsday To Adapt
Over the years, Marvel Comics has featured a few different characters as Captain America’s children. However, I think two of them would work particularly well in an Avengers: Doomsday storyline. One is James Rogers, who first appeared in the 2018 animated movie Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow. Notably, this version of James Rogers is the son of both Captain America and Black Widow.
James became the new Captain America, leading the children of deceased Marvel heroes in a fight against Ultron. Iron Man guided him, a relationship that could surprisingly link him to Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom if James is revealed to be the son of Steve and Peggy Carter, rather than Black Widow’s, and is shown as an adult in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, another potential son for Steve Rogers (Captain America) and Peggy Carter is Ian Rogers. First appearing in Marvel comics in 2012, Ian is the adopted son of Steve and Sharon Carter. He was artificially created by Arnim Zola, but later became a hero. His backstory would need significant changes to fit into the MCU.
Steve Rogers And Peggy Carter Also Had A Child In Another Universe
If Marvel wanted to reveal Captain America had a child with Peggy Carter, they’d likely have to introduce a character not originally from the comic books. Sharon Rogers fits this description, as she was first created for the Marvel Future Fight video game. She comes from an alternate universe where Captain America didn’t experience the events of The First Avenger.
So, Steve Rogers didn’t spend his later years frozen, but instead lived a full life with Peggy Carter, much like Chris Evans’ Captain America did in Avengers: Endgame. Sharon Carter eventually took over as Captain America after her parents stepped down. While she’d be a great addition to Avengers: Doomsday, I think the baby shown in the trailer is actually James Rogers.
