There’s a newcomer to Virgin River this season, and he brings plenty of secrets along with him.
The latest season of the popular, feel-good drama is now streaming on Netflix. It features a new character, Clay, who’s strong, sporty, and instantly makes an impression.
Clay immediately catches someone’s eye in Virgin River, but it’s also obvious he’s keeping a secret, creating an air of mystery around him.
Clay, portrayed by Cody Kearsley (known for his roles as Detective Knight and in ‘Breach’), arrives in Virgin River searching for his missing sister. Will he succeed in finding her?

Who is Clay in Virgin River?
Clay arrives in Virgin River and immediately causes a scene by getting into a fight at Jack’s Bar.
Eventually, he was able to clear up the misunderstanding by explaining that he’d told another man at the bar to stop bothering a woman, but when the man refused, the situation got out of hand. Clay then asked Jack if he was hiring, and Jack immediately offered him a job helping with the horses.
Clay is helpful around the ranch, but Jack quickly realizes he’s keeping something hidden when he starts hiding large amounts of cash under the floorboards.
Netflix shared that Clay used to compete in rodeos and was raised in foster care with his younger sister. They haven’t been in contact since his teenage years, and he’s been searching for her ever since.
Why is Clay hiding money in Jack and Mel’s ranch?
Later in the series, Clay comes back for the money, but Jack and Mel are worried to find him at the ranch late at night, especially since they know he’s been fighting again.
Clay dismisses their worries, but the next day Jack demands an explanation when Clay announces he’s quitting his job in Virgin River.
Clay said he was attacked the night before by two men who followed him home. He believes the attack was related to a debt from a month earlier – he’d borrowed money from an acquaintance he’d met on the rodeo circuit, someone who had previously profited from betting on his wins and now wanted to be repaid.
Clay explained to Jack that he’d used nearly all the money searching for his sister, Layla. All that remained was a bag of cash – the same money he’d been keeping hidden on the ranch.
Does Clay find his sister?
Although Clay spends much of season 7 searching for his sister, he doesn’t locate her. However, the search is definitely progressing, and things are starting to happen.
As Clay and Brie become more connected, he shares his troubles with her, and she promises to support him in any way possible.
Not much else occurs after that point, suggesting this story will likely continue in season eight.
