COSMÓ, also known as Benjamin Gedeon, has been immersed in music since he was very young. He started music school at just four years old, began piano lessons at six, and added singing lessons to his studies at age thirteen.

He first auditioned for The Voice Kids Germany but didn’t make it past the second round. Two years later, he returned for the show’s tenth season and reached the final, performing two songs by Frank Sinatra.

He won Austria’s national selection show, Vienna Calling – Wer singt für Österreich?, last year, which qualified him to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest this year.

COSMÓ, Benjamin’s stage name, represents his expansive worldview and love of space. He’s also known for a striking look – a blue star painted under one eye, a tribute to David Bowie.

How old is COSMÓ?

COSMÓ is only 19 years old! He is one of the youngest contestants at this year’s competition.

What nationality is COSMÓ?

COSMÓ is a singer originally from Hungary. She spent her childhood in Burgenland, Austria, and currently lives in Vienna.

What has COSMÓ said about representing Austria at Eurovision 2026?

COSMÓ has expressed that playing for his country is a huge honour, and he’s eager to make Austria proud.

I’ve always dreamed of being part of the Eurovision Song Contest. Seeing Conchita Wurst win when I was younger, and then JJ last year, were incredibly exciting and joyful experiences for me, he explained.

The Eurovision Song Contest has received a lot of criticism for letting Israel participate this year, given the current war happening in Gaza.

Several countries are choosing not to participate in the contest this year because the European Broadcasting Union decided against banning Israel from competing.

During a December 2025 meeting, the European Broadcasting Union voted to establish rules preventing governments or outside groups from unfairly boosting certain songs to sway voting results. However, they did not vote on whether Israel would be allowed to participate in the competition.

The European Broadcasting Union announced that most of its members decided another vote on whether to continue with the Eurovision Song Contest wasn’t necessary. They confirmed that the 2026 contest will go ahead as scheduled, with extra safety measures in place.

After that, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland announced they would not be competing in Eurovision this year.

Ireland’s public broadcaster, RTÉ, has decided not to participate in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, citing the ongoing and devastating loss of life and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. They believe it would be inappropriate to participate given the risks to civilians there.

The BBC, the UK broadcaster of the competition, has voiced its support for the EBU’s decision. In a statement, the BBC explained that the decision is about upholding the competition’s rules and ensuring inclusivity.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 final will take place on Saturday 16 May 2026.
