Most great TV shows include a joke or running gag that’s never fully explained. For example, in Game of Thrones, there was Tyrion Lannister’s recurring, unfinished joke about a donkey and honeycomb. In Season 4, Episode 7, the Berzattos, the Faks, and other characters come together for Tiffany and Frank’s wedding. Joining the cast is Brie Larson, the Academy Award-winning actress, who plays Francie Fak – the tough but caring sister of Neil, Ted, and Sammy.
It seems her brothers’ girlfriends rarely meet her approval, and she’s currently critical of Ted’s girlfriend, probably because she expects a lot from him. She insists she’s just protective, claiming it comes from a place of love. Natalie doesn’t seem thrilled about Francie being around, but it’s possible Francie has a perspective her brothers are missing.
Francie and Natalie’s day started off rocky, and they immediately began arguing as if their disagreement had never ended. This happened at a wedding reception, which was a really inappropriate place to fight over something that didn’t concern the happy couple. Eventually, Pete and the Fak brothers had to step in and separate them. Later, while sitting with the family under the table and supporting Eva as she overcame her fear of dancing, they realized how much they missed each other and reconciled.
Francie and Natalie Leave the Source of Their Longstanding Feud a Mystery
The show The Bear doesn’t reveal the full reason Natalie suddenly stopped speaking to Francie. However, a heated argument between them—shown with subtitles—hints at the cause. It appears that Neil’s habit of drinking hot chocolate is a key part of their conflict.
The group was in an uproar, complaining about whipped cream being smeared all over someone’s house. Apparently, Francie had been drinking and rushed to catch the bus before it left, while Natalie couldn’t get the car started. To make matters worse, someone mentioned chocolate, and none of them had their phones, so Francie couldn’t text Natalie for help.
Considering everything we know, it seems Francie and Natalie probably got into trouble – likely making a big mess somewhere while intoxicated – and Francie left Natalie to deal with the consequences. Because they didn’t have cellphones and they both say they’d been intimate before, they were likely young – probably teenagers or college students.
Their strong dislike for each other likely stems from a past romantic relationship, which made their competition deeply personal. Additionally, if the situation had occurred at Natalie’s home, she would have faced the brunt of her mother’s anger, further complicating an already strained relationship.
While the recent conflict appears resolved, the reconciliation feels somewhat unsatisfying. The argument ultimately aimed to demonstrate that past grievances shouldn’t overshadow the importance of family – whether by blood or by choice. This fits with the episode’s overall message of building new families and finding common ground, like when Richie and Frank set aside their issues to support Eva. However, the show could have explored the tension between Francie and Natalie in more depth.
Concluding their storyline in just one episode, with little preparation, feels unsatisfying, even if the reason for the friends’ falling out remains a mystery.
The Bear Season 5 Will Be the Final Season
Fans weren’t just disappointed with the storyline involving Francie and Natalie. The season finale also shocked viewers when Carmy decided to leave the show and the stressful world of his restaurant. The highly-regarded chef finally realized how his relentless drive for perfection, fueled by past trauma, had negatively impacted his life and relationships. Having lost his passion for cooking, he entrusted Sydney and Richie with running the restaurant and moved on.
Though the Season 4 finale, called “Goodbye,” felt like the end of the show to many viewers, The Bear was actually renewed for a fifth season just days later. Actor Ayo Edebiri (Sydney Adamu) shared a photo on Instagram celebrating the completion of the season, praising the incredible team and writers behind the show and the compelling story of the family at its heart.
Although there’s no official date yet, the fifth and final season of the show is expected in January 2026. Considering previous seasons have always premiered in the summer, it will probably be released in either June or July. It’s currently unclear if Brie Larson will be part of the final season.
