The latest season of Jujutsu Kaisen is now available on Crunchyroll, and fans are finally meeting Master Tengen. While Tengen was a key topic in the Hidden Inventory arc, this is the first time we’ve actually seen the character. He’s set to play a major role in the current Culling Game arc.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3’s Master Tengen explained
The first two episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 became available on Crunchyroll on January 8, 2026, and have gotten fans excited to learn more about the character Master Tengen.
Yoshiko Sakakibara provides the voice for Master Tengen. He first appeared in the Hidden Inventory storyline, where it was revealed he needed to merge with a person called the Star Plasma Vessel – initially Riko Amanai. Tengen is an immortal who must fuse with a Star Plasma Vessel every 500 years to avoid becoming a dangerous curse. Unfortunately, this plan didn’t work when Riko died.
While usually seen locked away in the Tombs of the Star Corridor, Tengen plays a crucial role in Kenjaku’s plans during Season 3. According to accounts of their past, Tengen has lived for centuries, originally starting as a young girl whose teachings became the basis for modern Jujutsu sorcery.
The latest arc of the series features Yuji and his friends explaining the Culling Games to Tengen. They reveal that Kenjaku plans to use the games to gather cursed energy and ultimately merge with Tengen, fundamentally altering the world of Jujutsu. During this conversation, Kenjaku directly confronts Tengen, leading to a battle where Choso and Yuki try to defend him. Unfortunately, Kenjaku wins the fight and successfully takes control of Tengen. The third episode of this arc is still upcoming on Crunchyroll.
