Who is the father of Zoe Slater’s secret children in EastEnders? Anthony Trueman and other possibilities

Caution: This content reveals significant plot points from the September 4th, 2025 episode of EastEnders. You can watch it now on BBC iPlayer.

In my humble opinion as a film critic, the latest twists in “EastEnders” have left me in a state of suspense. Contrary to prior assumptions, Max Branning (Jake Wood) has been eliminated as Zoe Slater’s (Michelle Ryan) mysterious baby daddy. Flashbacks now reveal that their paths never crossed until earlier this year, shaking up the storyline significantly.

In 2006, Zoe shared with Max that tragically, her newborn daughter had passed away. Simultaneously, she left her living son at the hospital.

Eager to convey my affection and longing to reunite, I found myself in pursuit of meeting the child I bore, but an opportunity was met with danger when the man providing a clue instead struck at me, leaving me no choice but to defend myself and abandon him, seemingly lifeless.

Additionally, this fresh revelation about Zoe’s history has raised even more questions – the main one being, who is the father?

As a cinephile, here’s an intriguing thought: Could the father character be someone completely new to us? Or perhaps there’s a twist in store – what if he’s someone we’ve encountered before in other films?

We’ve taken a closer look at all the potential candidates – at least, the ones we know of!

Who is the father of Zoe Slater’s son in EastEnders?

Dr Anthony Trueman

This week, we’ve been reflecting on Zoe’s remarks to Anthony regarding his parenthood, a revelation that left a lasting impact on her.

Suppose that, following their departures from Walford, Zoe entered into a short-lived relationship with Anthony which led to her becoming pregnant.

Could it really be a mere coincidence that Zoe and her ex, Anthony, have returned at the same time?

Or should we be looking entirely elsewhere?

Beppe di Marco

As a devoted cinemaphile, I can’t help but speculate that there might be a striking resemblance between Zoe’s son and some characters we’ve seen on screen. The brief glimpse we caught leaves me wondering if perhaps they share some distinctive features or characteristics.

Couldn’t it be possible that she ran into Michael Greco (Beppe), many years later since their time in Albert Square, and an unforeseen connection ignited between them?

We aren’t certain that Beppe is the biological father, but given how erratic soap operas can be, it wouldn’t surprise us if EastEnders reintroduced an old character to connect Zoe to her past!

And, after all, they were part of the same era.

Spencer Moon

As youngsters, Chris Parker (Spencer) and Zoe were often seen in the same social circle. Despite being involved romantically with Vicki Fowler, whose relationship history includes both Scarlett Johnson and Alice Haig, there are gaps in our understanding of when these relationships occurred.

What if Zoe spent the night with Spencer, and he never knew she fell pregnant?

Years ago, Spencer was discovered by Vicki to have been unfaithful with Zoe, which resulted in a heated confrontation. This incident further fueled Sharon Watts’ (Letitia Dean) dislike for Zoe.

Spencer might return again, and since he’s the younger sibling of Zoe’s stepfather, Alfie Moon (played by Shane Richie), it could introduce an extra dimension to the relationship between the Slaters and Moons.

Mickey Miller

In 2024, Joe Swash once more took on the character of the flirtatious entrepreneur, and similarly to before, Mickey resided in the Square alongside Zoe.

If Zoe hadn’t informed Mickey about her pregnancy, it’s likely that he, being the good person he is, wouldn’t have known about the prospect of taking care of a baby. However, in such an uninformed scenario, his actions would remain uncertain.

Due to her troubled history with her mother, Kat Moon (played by Jessie Wallace), Zoe might lack the self-assurance and resilience needed to identify a reliable partner when they present themselves.

Ronny Ferreira

On several occasions, Ronny (Ray Panthaki) socialized with Zoe in similar groups, and during their teen years, they were even romantic partners. However, a turning point came when Ronny kissed another woman.

But what if the pair later reconnected?

Considering EastEnders’ recent trend of revisiting familiar characters from the past, it seems like a plausible assumption.

Tariq Larousi

It would be incorrect not to include Ronny’s friend, who turned out to be his half-brother, in our discussion as well, since he is acquainted with Zoe too.

Revisiting the past and the idea of another return, it could be intriguing to switch things up by making Tariq (Nabil Elouahabi) portray Zoe’s father, giving Ronny’s character a fresh twist!

Dennis Rickman

Previously, we discussed this particular concept, and even though Dennis (Nigel Harman) didn’t truly feel affection for Zoe, there remains the possibility of an unexpected plot turn.

Dennis might have paddled a boat with Sharon while they were together, encountered Zoe elsewhere outside the screen, and had a brief romantic encounter.

Instead of Dennis having a secret love child, which could deeply wound Sharon, might there be a significant new cause for Sharon and Zoe’s long-standing rivalry to intensify once more?
