As a huge Bridgerton fan, I really enjoyed seeing Penelope and Colin finally get their moment last season – those characters have been core to the show since the beginning! But this new season is already exciting because it’s not relying on familiar faces alone. They’re introducing Sophie Baek, a completely new character, which is a really fresh direction for the show, and I’m eager to see what she brings to the story.
Sophie, a maid, meets the artistic Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), who is searching for the mysterious woman he connected with at a masquerade ball – the one known as his ‘Lady in Silver’.
This season will follow his journey to find her, and as the story unfolds, we’ll discover more about Sophie and her difficult past.
Yerin Ha, who plays the character, recently shared some insights with TopMob magazine about the upcoming story. She explained that at its heart, it’s a tale about self-discovery. Ha was particularly drawn to her character, Sophie, because of her strong sense of right and wrong, and her refusal to compromise her values for anyone. The story explores the tension created by the difference in social status between Sophie and another character, creating a compelling dynamic.
Since Ha is new to Bridgerton this season, you might be curious about her previous work. Here’s a look at the actress Sophie Baek and where you’ve seen her before.
Who is Yerin Ha?

Ha is an Australian actress who gained recognition for her work on the Paramount+ series Halo. Based on the popular video game, she played the character Kwan Ha from 2022 until 2024.
Born in Sydney, Australia, Ha moved to South Korea when she was young and decided to become an actress. She attended Kaywon High School of Arts in Seoul and later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting. She continued her studies at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, specializing in musical theatre.
She first appeared on television in the crime drama Reef Break, followed by roles in Halo and the Australian series Troppo. In 2022, she made her film debut with Sissy.
Ha explained to Tudum what attracted her to the role in Bridgerton: the character faces immediate challenges, constantly needing to overcome hurdles like societal expectations and concealing her emotions from Benedict.
How old is Yerin Ha?
Ha is 28 years old.
She was born on 16th January 1998.
What has Yerin Ha previously starred in?

Yael Stone, known for her role in Halo, has also appeared in Australian shows like Troppo and Bad Behaviour. More recently, she’s taken on guest roles in Dune: Prophecy as a young Kasha and in the Netflix series, The Survivors.
What has Yerin Ha said about joining Bridgerton?
Ha spoke with Tudum about the character, explaining that a central idea throughout her audition scenes was the use of masks – both literal and figurative. She explored when Sophie hides her true feelings and when she lets her guard down, finding it a really enjoyable part of the role to play with those contrasts.
The TV series made a significant change to a character from the original book: Sophie’s last name was changed from Beckett to Baek. This change highlights the character’s Korean heritage and is meaningful because, as the actor explained, a name is a fundamental part of someone’s identity, and changing it can be very impactful.
It’s incredibly empowering to see a character like Sophie’s name attached to someone who looks like me, and I really appreciate the work of our showrunner, Jess Brownell.
