Production on The Batman Part II is set to begin later this year after several postponements, with the movie currently slated for release in October 2027. Director Matt Reeves is now assembling the cast, and he’s attracting some major stars. Following the addition of Scarlett Johansson in an undisclosed role, Sebastian Stan—who previously starred alongside Johansson in Marvel films—has joined the project. Details about his character are still secret, but popular fan speculation suggests we may already know who he’ll be playing.
After Stan was cast in the new Batman movie, rumors quickly spread that he might be playing Harvey Dent, and there seems to be evidence supporting this. Stan’s stylist shared artwork online showing him as Two-Face, and industry insider Jeff Sneider claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that Harvey Dent was cast in The Batman 2. This happened before Sneider could find out who was playing the role, and news of Stan’s casting soon became public. See the related posts below.
I heard last night that Reeves had cast the actor to play Dent. I was planning to inquire about it this morning, but someone else beat me to it!

Is This Proof Sebastian Stan Is Playing Harvey Dent?
While neither post officially confirms it, fans are likely to assume Stan will play Harvey Dent. Both posts definitely hint at it and will probably reinforce that idea. Harvey Dent would be a perfect role for Stan, allowing him to use his natural charm before the character becomes a villain. He’s also proven he can play convincingly menacing roles, so he’d be equally great as Two-Face.
Matt Reeves has expressed a desire to do something truly original with The Batman Part II, which might suggest he’s not planning to use the traditional Harvey Dent storyline. While Harvey Dent/Two-Face has appeared in several Batman films – played by actors like Billy Dee Williams and Tommy Lee Jones – there are still ways to introduce the character without simply repeating past stories. Recent speculation suggests Scarlett Johansson might play Gilda Gold, Harvey Dent’s wife, a character who hasn’t been featured in a live-action movie before. This could offer a fresh perspective on Harvey Dent and reveal a side of him audiences haven’t seen.
With so many compelling characters already established in Batman’s world – including villains we haven’t seen on screen yet – some fans might be surprised to see Harvey Dent appear in another movie. However, he feels like a fitting addition to what’s being described as a sprawling Batman crime saga. As Gotham’s former district attorney, Dent was dedicated to fighting crime, so it makes sense he’d be involved in tackling the city’s organized crime problems. In fact, it would almost be unusual if he didn’t play a part. And for those worried that The Batman Part II will simply retread The Dark Knight, Dent doesn’t necessarily need to become Two-Face in this film. Director Matt Reeves is planning a third movie to conclude the trilogy, and this role for Harvey could help set up the story for that final installment.
While it’s important to remember that nothing is confirmed yet, all the evidence currently suggests Harvey Dent will be appearing. If so, it will be fascinating to see Matt Reeves’ unique interpretation of the character, building on his success in revitalizing Gotham City and characters like Catwoman, Penguin, and the Riddler. He’s demonstrated a clear ability to bring a fresh perspective to familiar faces, and there’s good reason to believe he can do the same for Dent.
