Aziz Ansari is directing his first film, *Good Fortune*, which is set to come out in 2025 and features a talented cast including Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh, and Keanu Reeves. Ansari has long been a fan of his co-stars, and he’s previously admitted to being especially impressed by Keanu Reeves. He even hinted that this collaboration was meant to happen, as he shared with TopMob.
It’s happened before – TV shows sometimes seem to predict the future (think *The Simpsons*!). Now, it appears Aziz Ansari’s show, *Master of None*, accidentally foreshadowed his recent collaboration with Keanu Reeves. Ansari was talking to Jeff McCobb about his new project, *Good Fortune*, when *Master of None* came up in the conversation. He then revealed a fascinating story about a specific detail from Season 2 of the show.
It’s funny—Keanu Reeves wasn’t actually *in* Master of None, but I just noticed something while rewatching. There’s a scene with cab drivers talking about picking up celebrities, and one claims he drove Keanu Reeves. The others joke that he probably uses Uber now! And then, Keanu Reeves ends up being in the movie itself! It’s a pretty unexpected connection.
The episode “New York, I Love You” differs from most of the series by focusing on the lives of everyday New Yorkers rather than the main character, Dev, and his friends. One of these New Yorkers is Samuel, a cab driver from Burundi who shares a house with several roommates. In a surprising twist, Samuel challenges a friend’s story about driving a famous actor from *Bill & Ted* to a nightclub. This detail now adds an interesting layer to the show’s history, especially considering the later episode *Good Fortune*. Aziz Ansari has even said it took him some time to realize the connection between the two stories.
It didn’t occur to me until much later, but then I realized something strange had happened earlier. It was like a hint of things to come.

Despite performing all his own stunts in four *John Wick* films without major injuries, Keanu Reeves was hilariously taken down by a rug while filming a scene for Aziz Ansari’s *Good Fortune*.
It’s a funny coincidence how perfectly this project came together! The new supernatural comedy, *Good Fortune*, is a particularly quirky collaboration for Aziz Ansari and Keanu Reeves. Ansari wrote and directed the film, which stars Reeves as a low-rent guardian angel who loses his wings after trying to help a struggling man (played by Ansari) by switching bodies. Stripped of his powers, the angel is forced to live as a human and watch as the positive effects of his previous interventions start to unravel.
Ansari really enjoyed working with Reeves, describing him as having a classic movie star quality. He felt Reeves elevated the film, which Ansari found thrilling. It’s wonderful – and perhaps a bit fated – that these two ended up acting together, considering the earlier nod to Reeves in Ansari’s stand-up years ago. It just feels meant to be.
Don’t miss Good Fortune when it’s released in theaters on October 17th. While you wait, you can enjoy the series Master of None on Netflix.
