Whoopi Goldberg is saying “buongiorno” to The View.
The Academy Award-winning actress returned to her daytime talk show hosting job after taking two weeks off to film an appearance on the Italian soap opera, Un Posto Al Sole.
Okay, seriously, I nearly lost it when Ana Navarro said that! It was on the show December 1st, and she playfully said we should greet her with ‘bienvenuto’ – like, welcome in Italian! – because honestly, it felt like she’d completely forgotten how to speak English. I was dying, it was the perfect read, honestly!
And as Whoopi admitted, Ana wasn’t entirely wrong.
“I don’t know what language I’m thinking in,” the 70-year-old laughed. “What time zone I’m in?”
Despite her whirlwind trip, the Ghost star added her time aboard “was really good.”
I gained a lot of experience because I hadn’t worked on a soap opera before. Filming one in another country and language was a really unique and enjoyable challenge. It was a fantastic experience overall.
Whoopi Goldberg shared lots of videos from her trip to Italy with her cohosts on The View, jokingly saying she wanted them to know she was still working while she was there.
And while she was in a very picturesque location of Naples, it was less than ideal weather-wise.
She explained to the audience that it rained constantly. It wasn’t a gentle rain, she clarified, but a relentless downpour with storms and thunder – truly wild weather.
But aside from the weather, Whoopi shared that she and her costars “had the best time.”

The actress known for her work in Sister Act revealed in June that she would be joining the cast of Un Posto Al Sole, a long-running Italian soap opera that has been on the air since 1996 and follows the lives of people living in the Palazzo Palladini apartment building.
Whoopi recently shared in an Instagram video how thrilled she is to be joining the cast of Un Posto Al Sole. She acknowledged the idea is unconventional, but expressed her excitement and anticipation for the opportunity, calling it a ‘wonderful thing’ to do.
Whoopi Goldberg said the language barrier wasn’t a problem, explaining, ‘My Italian isn’t perfect, but we’ve been able to communicate.’
According to the show, Whoopi’s episodes will air in 2026.
