Whose Line Is It Anyway?’s Colin Mochrie Gets Emergency Eye Surgery

Colin Mochrie is seeing to his health.

Colin Mochrie, known for his work on Whose Line Is It Anyway?, has delayed his upcoming stand-up shows because of a health issue with his eye.

Colin recently received a diagnosis of a detached retina and is having emergency surgery today, according to a statement posted on his Instagram on January 2nd. Doctors are hopeful for a complete recovery, but he will need time to rest and recover.

Colin is very thankful for all your kind support and good wishes. He’s excited to return to performing and hopes to share lots more laughter with everyone soon.

Retinal detachment happens when a layer of tissue in the back of your eye separates from its normal place, says the Mayo Clinic. The longer it’s left untreated, the greater the risk of losing your vision in that eye.

Colin, age 68, was originally going to perform with hypnotist Asad Mecci in Niagara Falls, Canada, on January 2nd and 3rd. The show was part of their HYPROV: Improv Under Hypnosis Tour.

He was planning to perform with his former Whose Line Is It Anyway? co-star, Brad Sherwood, on January 9th in Walnut Creek, California. They were then scheduled to continue their Asking for Trouble Tour with shows in Florida and Illinois later in January.

Oh my gosh, Colin is a LEGEND! He’s been on that improv show a whopping 431 times – can you believe it? Forty-three-one episodes over twenty-one seasons! It’s insane! And the craziest part? He barely prepares! Seriously, he just…shows up and is hilarious. It’s unbelievable, and honestly, it’s part of what makes him so amazing. I’ve watched every episode, and I swear, it’s like he doesn’t even need to rehearse!

People might expect a big warm-up routine, but honestly, I just relax with a coffee before going on stage,” he explained to Wisconsin’s WTMJ in January 2025. “After doing this for over 40 years, I’m very comfortable performing for an audience, even though we don’t have a fully prepared show.”

As a huge fan of Nikki and her wrestling career, I was shocked to hear about what happened in her match last July! Apparently, during a move from Piper Niven, one of Nikki’s breast implants actually shifted. It’s crazy to think about something like that happening in the ring, and I really hope she’s fully recovered!

Oh my gosh, she actually said that! I was reading about it, and she told Bella Garcia, basically, it was fine – they’d get things sorted out eventually. She was so determined! She even told the doctor, like, ‘As soon as my divorce is final and I’m done with everything, I’m coming back and we’re going to make sure everything looks amazing because these girls are going to be getting a lot of attention, and they absolutely can’t look the way they do now!’ It’s just…she’s incredible, always planning ahead and taking charge. I can’t even handle how amazing she is!

Lupita Nyong’o, known for her role in 12 Years a Slave, received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her performance in the film.

She didn’t share her diagnosis until 2025, when she revealed on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with it for over ten years.

She explained that many girls are taught to accept period pain as a normal part of being a woman. This often leaves them dealing with a common issue in silence and without support.

In July 2025, the actress from Daisy Jones & The Six revealed she was hospitalized for a hernia. This happened because she’d been wearing pants that were too tight, which caused a gap in her abdominal muscles.

To give some context, he said that just a few weeks or a month prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds. Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, despite its often negative side, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier” and receiving critical comments online, doctors began commenting on interviews, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome, a condition often linked to high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted Amy to realize she had been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. She later learned she had a form of Cushing syndrome that would resolve on its own, which she called “the greatest news imaginable.” Amy shared this update in a February 2024 newsletter, relieved to be healthy.

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly began having stroke-like symptoms, unable to speak and experiencing drooping on the right side of her face. Though these symptoms eventually passed, she went to the hospital for testing. Doctors discovered she’d had a small blood clot travel to her brain, which they identified as a TIA, or transient ischemic attack. Further investigation at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart, called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to reach her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the hole in her heart and is now doing well.

It was a really tough year for both Justin and Hailey. Not long after Hailey’s health scare, Justin revealed he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. As a huge fan, it was so scary to see him share that he had temporary paralysis on one side of his face. He explained in a video that it affected his nerves and made it hard to even eat. He showed us how he couldn’t blink, smile, or even move his nostril on one side – it was heartbreaking! It was such a random and frightening thing to happen, but seeing him on the mend was a huge relief.

In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, Foxx explained that he was suffering from a severe headache when he suddenly lost consciousness. He doesn’t remember the next 20 days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

After surgery, he woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then went to Chicago for extensive rehabilitation and therapy.

She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling like she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where your body essentially starts to shut down.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the show, she experienced a sudden and severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

A hospital scan quickly revealed a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. She had suffered an aneurysm, a rupture in an artery. Emergency surgery was performed to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, leaving her unable to speak clearly.

Though the aphasia eventually passed and she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had doubled in size, requiring a second surgery. This procedure initially failed, leading to a massive bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia Clarke is now fully recovered and says she is “at a hundred per cent.”

In a September 2024 podcast interview, she revealed she experienced hearing loss, extreme fatigue – unable to walk for more than five minutes without needing hours of sleep – and persistent stomach pain. She faced confusion as different doctors offered varying diagnoses.

Determined to find answers, Woodley, who prefers to keep her specific condition private, combined traditional medical care with holistic and herbal remedies. This search for well-being spanned a decade.

She explained that the physical discomfort led to deeper issues, including fear of food and struggles with body image, identity, and feeling safe in her own body.

Fortunately, after years of addressing both her physical and mental health, Woodley is now feeling much better and is happy to report that she is very healthy.
