Why A$AP Rocky Says Rihanna “Has Always Been Magic”

Rihanna has always shone bright like a diamond to A$AP Rocky.

Even before A$AP and his future partner became a couple in 2020, he felt a special connection with them.

He told W Magazine in an article published on April 21st that this woman has always possessed a special quality. He described her as operating on a deeply insightful level, and said she’s the most genuinely charming person he knows. He emphasized that her energy is unique and unparalleled.

As he put it, “I just adore her.”

A$AP (whose full name is Rakim Athleston Mayers) also talked about what he and Rihanna do when they aren’t caring for their children: RZA, age 3, Riot, age 2, and their baby, Rocki, who is 7 months old.

He shared that he and Rihanna have a lot in common, explaining they both love watching documentaries—they were particularly hooked on the Bob Marley documentary. He also said they enjoy watching movies together, and they’ve seen El Cantante at least fifteen times.

Rihanna has evolved a lot over the past twenty years, especially since becoming friends with A$AP Rocky, then starting a relationship, and now becoming parents. As he noted, becoming a mother is a transformative experience.

But parenthood has also changed both of them. 

He told Esquire magazine in January that becoming a father was something he desired even before his relationship. He’d hoped for a child, any child, and was grateful to have been blessed with three.

So when A$AP did finally become a girl dad in 2025, he once again felt a shifting. 

Becoming a father to daughters has made me feel more open and emotionally aware,” the 37-year-old shared with TopMob News last November. “I’m embracing this new part of my life, and it’s making me more careful and appreciative of everything. I feel like it’s a good fit for who I am now.”

And while the rapper may have some f–kin’ problems to deal with, fatherhood is not one of them. 

“Being a dad in general is just amazing,” he added. “And it’s life changing.”

Rihanna feels thankful that she and A$AP Rocky became a couple when they did, especially since it happened during the 2020 pandemic.

She explained to Interview Magazine in 2024 that the COVID-19 pandemic actually brought them closer together quickly, and she believes it was meant to be, as they soon started a family. Without the pandemic, she feels they would have taken much longer to become comfortable with each other and determine if they were truly ready for a serious relationship.

The 38-year-old added, “Looking back, it was absolutely the best thing that could have happened to us.”

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky made a stylish appearance together at the 2021 Met Gala. Rihanna wore a black Balenciaga gown, while A$AP Rocky sported a unique look with an ERL quilt layered over a tuxedo.

Rihanna recently shared how difficult it was to hide her pregnancy, especially from her close friends. She explained to Justin Sylvester that her friends noticed her changing habits – she stopped drinking and smoking, and started craving sweets she normally wouldn’t touch, like cookies and donuts. Eventually, she told them, and they were just as surprised as the rest of the world.

How adorable! Rihanna continued to showcase her amazing fashion sense while expecting her baby with A$AP Rocky.

After A$AP Rocky’s “D.M.B.” music video featured the phrases “Marry me?” and “I do” on his and Rihanna’s teeth, many fans speculated about an engagement. However, sources close to the couple told TMZ in May 2022 that they were not engaged at that time.

And baby makes three! Multiple outlets report that the couple welcomed a baby in Los Angeles.

She debuted her second pregnancy during the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show.

The pair take the 2023 Met Gala together in honor of Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld. 

Rihanna accompanied A$AP Rocky during his performance at a Spotify party in Cannes, France.

The couple recently had a baby boy named Riot, making them a family of four. They shared their first official family photos a month later.

Rihanna confirmed her romance with A$AP began at the end of 2019. 

She explained in an interview with Interview magazine, published on April 9th, that they were both aware of each other’s relationship histories. They understood how deeply they could affect each other – for better or worse – and knew they had the potential to really hurt one another. Because of this, they approached dating very carefully.

Rihanna is expecting her third child! She announced the news just before attending the 2025 Met Gala.

Rihanna revealed she had a baby girl, named Rocki Irish Mayers, by sharing photos on Instagram. The pictures show Rihanna holding her newborn, playfully framed by a pair of pink boxing gloves.
