Why ABC’s High Potential Won’t Return to TV Until 2027

Morgan Gillory won’t be solving any more crimes any time soon.

Okay, so if you’re a “High Potential” fan, you’ll need to practice a little patience! ABC has decided to push the premiere of season three to next year. I know, a bit of a bummer, but it gives the team time to really deliver something fantastic when it finally arrives. We’ll all be eagerly awaiting Kaitlin Olson’s return, of course!

The network confirmed on May 12th that the show’s release was being pushed back. The announcement came with the fall 2026 TV schedule, and the show wasn’t included alongside other popular series like Scrubs, Abbott Elementary, 9-1-1, and Grey’s Anatomy.

Okay, so everyone’s been asking about High Potential and why it’s taking a bit of a break after finishing its second season in April. Basically, ABC decided to hold off bringing it back until midseason. It’s a common strategy in television – sometimes networks like to space out their shows to keep things fresh and build anticipation. It doesn’t mean the show is cancelled, just that we’ll have to wait a little longer for new episodes! As a lifestyle expert, I always say patience is a virtue, and good things come to those who wait – and I’m confident High Potential will be back before you know it.

ABC’s Ari Goldman explained during a presentation on May 12th that, based on the success of shows like Will Trent and The Rookie in recent seasons, the network aims to let viewers watch shows with minimal breaks throughout the year.

He explained that when they start planning for the middle of the season, they have a lot of great opportunities with shows like New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, the College Football Playoff, the Grammys, the Oscars, and the Super Bowl. He believes this strong lineup at the beginning of 2027 will help relaunch the show successfully.

Goldman also pointed out the growth in the “High Potential” viewership between the first and second seasons, stating that the show is clearly holding strong and remaining popular.

If you’re looking for a new mystery to solve, season two of R.J. Decker is coming soon! The show, starring Scott Speedman as a former photographer and convict turned private investigator, will air Tuesdays after the latest season of Dancing With the Stars.

Popular shows like Shark Tank, 9-1-1: Nashville, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, and Celebrity Jeopardy! will be back on air this fall.

Notably missing from the fall 2026 schedule is The Bachelorette. Its recent season, featuring Taylor Frankie Paul, was halted due to a domestic violence situation involving her ex-partner, Dakota Mortensen. However, police ultimately decided not to press charges.

When reporters asked about the possibility of airing the unaired season, Goldman stated that there are no current plans to do so.
