Why Brian Austin Green Felt Insecure During Tichina Arnold Romance

Brian Austin Green and Tichina Arnold had a secret but real love.

The Beverly Hills 90210 star shared how the actress’s choice to hide their relationship from the public when they were both famous in the 1990s hurt his self-worth and made him less confident.

Brian remembered that Martin immediately stressed secrecy when they first met. He told Deon Cole on the Funny Knowing You podcast on January 14th that Martin said, ‘Nobody can know about this,’ and ‘Don’t tell anyone, don’t talk about it.’ Brian, who was in his early 20s at the time, explained that he felt trapped because he was living in a culture that didn’t accept him, but he was drawn to it emotionally and intellectually.

He explained that he was also drawn to someone who asked him to keep their relationship a secret. This really made him feel inadequate, like he wasn’t someone this person wanted others to know about. It felt like they were ashamed to be seen with him, even among friends.

Although Brian pointed out that Tichina eventually decided to go public with their relationship, it didn’t matter anymore – the damage was already done.

He said she suddenly seemed okay with everything, but he still felt uncomfortable. He kept worrying about what other people thought, wondering if they were staring or questioning why he was there.

Tichina has talked about her short relationship with Brian before, saying he was a good person, but she ended it because she didn’t see a long-term future with him.

During a December 31st appearance on the Funny Knowing You podcast, the actress told Deon that she had previously said to him, ‘I’ve realized our relationship is ending. I’ve noticed you’ve been dating Black women, and now you’re with me, but you’ll ultimately end up with a white woman. You’ll share your wealth and family history with someone white, and I don’t want to be a part of that,’ which is why she was ending things.

However, Brian disputed his exes’ claims about the validity of their romance.

He explained to Deon that when Tichina mentioned his dating life, it sounded like she thought he was just experimenting, not genuinely interested in Black women. He clarified that hip-hop was central to his life, and he spent all his time immersed in that world. Naturally, he ended up dating people he met through that scene, and at the time, most of those people were Black women because they shared his passions.

To this day, Brian is adamant that he and Tichina have nothing but love for each other.

He explained that they were always true to themselves. Even when she had doubts or feared getting hurt, they never blamed each other – not once.

Brian, who started dating Sharna Burgess in 2021 after separating from Megan Fox, continued, saying he’ll always support her and she’ll always support him. He wants to make it clear he’s not trying to cause drama or say anything negative about her.

During a February 2025 appearance on the Literally! With Rob Lowe podcast, Kristin clarified that a former boyfriend – the one she’d lent $5,000 to before he broke up with her – was absolutely not Rob Lowe, who has won three Emmy Awards.

Okay, so get this – when I was with Alec, he was already, like, seriously wealthy. It’s just… crazy to even think about the fact that I actually lent him five thousand dollars! I mean, Alec Baldwin needed me to spot him some cash? Oh my gosh, it’s still so wild!

They remained close friends and cared deeply for each other, but ultimately weren’t meant to be a couple.

Honestly, I was so upset when I read that interview! It just felt…wrong. She said, and I’ll never forget this, that it was “fantastically inappropriate” for him to announce their breakup on Oprah! Can you believe it? Like, announcing something so personal on national television? As if! I totally agreed with her – it was a really public way to handle something so private, and it just felt… disrespectful, you know? I mean, Oprah?! It just didn’t seem right at all, and I was immediately on her side.
