A week following the disclosure that the “Sixth Sense” actor, who is 47 years old, is residing in a different home to receive constant care due to frontotemporal dementia (FTD), she defended her actions against critics by affirming her choice to prioritize his wellbeing.
In a recent interview with People, Emma expressed that the experience of dealing with dementia varies for every family and one must make decisions suitable for their unique situation and loved one. She shared her sadness over the ordeal but emphasized that these challenging circumstances allowed them to provide support to the entire family, ultimately expanding their loved one’s world.
The individual, who has daughters Mabel (age 13) and Evelyn (age 11) with Bruce, mentioned that transitioning her spouse into their single-story secondary residence was the “toughest challenge,” but she made this choice due to his medical needs demanding a tranquil and peaceful environment.
Emma explained, “We’ve got two young kids who require a home that caters to their specific needs, while also ensuring Bruce has a suitable environment for himself. It was crucial that we find such a place. Now, our children can once again enjoy playdates and sleepovers without having to be overly cautious about making noise.
She added, “Everything just feels a lot calmer, more at ease now.”
Emma additionally shared that Bruce, who is a father to Rumer (age 36), Scout (age 33), and Tallulah (age 31) with ex-wife Demi Moore, frequently enjoys spending memorable times with his family members at his home.
She clarified, “It means I’ll once again be Bruce’s spouse, and our children can simply be kids, which is a beautiful thing and I’m incredibly thankful for it. Essentially, I get to share these moments with him, and that’s possible due to the arrangement we have in place. It’s been very beneficial for us.
Regarding Emma’s approach to those criticizing her choice to live apart from the Die Hard actor, she keeps in mind that it’s solely her and her family who understand what’s truly best for Bruce.
She noted in a video posted on August 29th that while everyone may have an opinion, it’s important to remember that many do not possess the necessary experience to support their views. Even if someone seems knowledgeable about conditions like dementia or the one you’re caring for, they aren’t present in your home, thus they lack insight into your loved one’s behavior and family dynamics.
Emma stated, “In essence, many opinions are overwhelmingly dominant and disruptive. Yet, those without firsthand experience are not entitled to voice their opinions or cast a vote.
