Carrie Coon isn’t meant to have an uncomfortable night—as in, be in two places at once.
The actress, nominated for a Golden Globe for her supporting role as Laurie Duffy in The White Lotus, will miss the January 11th awards ceremony. She has a performance in her Broadway play, Bug, that same night and is unable to attend both events.
Carrie announced on January 11th that she wouldn’t be attending the Golden Globes, explaining she’s feeling unwell. She expressed gratitude for the nomination and playfully acknowledged the excitement of simply being recognized, adding the hashtags #GoldenGlobes2024, #Bug, and #WhiteLotus.
The 44-year-old actress is currently performing in a Broadway thriller written by her husband, Tracy Letts. She has previously explained why she and he wouldn’t be able to collaborate on the third season of The White Lotus.
The actress explained on The Julia Cunningham Show in February 2025 that her husband, Tracy, isn’t suited for this time of year because he’s allergic to the sun and doesn’t like the ocean. She added that he’d be better suited for a colder season in the future.
However, Bug isn’t the first project this couple has collaborated on. They originally met in 2010 while working on a production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, and they instantly connected. They later married in 2013.
I remember when I first met Tracy, we were both actually in relationships at the time. But honestly, anyone who was around us could just feel that something was going to happen. It was like an electric connection! I nearly bumped into him in a doorway on the very first day of rehearsals, and he just said, ‘I’m really glad you’re here.’ That was all it took, really. It felt like destiny.

After welcoming their son, Haskell, in 2018, and a daughter in 2021 (whose name hasn’t been made public yet), the couple’s work life has understandably changed.
Carrie told Harper’s Bazaar in 2021 that they always find a way to make room for truly exceptional job opportunities. She explained that if one of them receives a particularly exciting offer, they’ll adjust things to accommodate it.
There’s a good chance we’ll be getting another season of the popular HBO show, The White Lotus. Here’s everything we know about season 4 so far…

HBO confirmed The White Lotus will return for a fourth season in January 2025. The renewal came several weeks before the third season even aired, and followed a pitch from the show’s creator, Mike White, outlining plans for more drama and intrigue.
HBO CEO Casey Bloys said in November that if Mike wants to continue the show for a fourth season, it will happen.
Production on season four will likely kick off in 2026, according to Variety.

HBO announced in December that filming would take place in France. Reports in January confirmed the main location would be the Château de la Messardière in Saint-Tropez, a beautifully restored 19th-century palace now operating as a luxury hotel.
Before the announcement was made, actress Parker Posey, who previously appeared in the show, told TopMob News that the cast of The White Lotus was planning to film in France.
White and fellow producers had been dropping hints, too.
HBO Programming executive Francesca Orsi told Deadline in February that they’ll be scouting locations over the next few weeks. While she wouldn’t reveal specifics, she indicated they’re likely looking at places in Europe.
Chances, she emphasized.
Orsi explained that while they’ve discussed potential filming locations in certain countries, they haven’t begun scouting those places yet, so there’s nothing concrete to share at this time.
After the season three finale aired on April 6th, White told HBO he wanted to move away from the show’s often bleak and dramatic storytelling style in the next season.
“But,” he added, “there’s always room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.”
I was so excited to hear that Patrick White shared his dream of visiting Australia! He actually told us while he was at the Vivid Festival in Sydney back in June 2023 – it was amazing to hear him talk about it.
He said it sounded like a lot of fun, explaining that the incredible talent and obvious beauty made it seem like a perfect fit.

In December 2025, HBO announced that Alexander Ludwig, known for his role in The Hunger Games, and AJ Michalka of Aly & AJ would be joining the cast. Given that both actors have released music albums, their characters might have musical abilities.

Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, the Emmy-winning composer known for the music of The White Lotus, won’t be returning for the fourth season. He says this is due to creative differences with the show’s creator, Mike White, which began during the first season.
Tapia de Veer explained to the New York Times that a few months prior, he had informed the team he wouldn’t be returning. He chose not to tell Mike Flanagan until the very end, hoping for a bigger impact. (Flanagan did learn before the season finished, Tapia de Veer added.)
Tapia de Veer described the journey to creating the memorable theme music for the first season (which also opened the second) as difficult. Despite its eventual success, he explained that White initially didn’t want the theme at all, saying, ‘You see it afterward, and it’s a success, but to get there is quite the struggle.’
He wasn’t asked to change the show’s opening sequence for the third season, but he did it anyway, which upset many fans.

After the news broke, I was contacted by media outlets like TMZ, and even reporters from England and France, all wanting a comment on the theme song. I noticed a lot of people were really upset about the change, which I found intriguing. I suggested to the producer that we eventually release the full version, including the ‘ooh-loo-loo-loos,’ because I predicted a strong reaction if people discovered that version existed. He agreed, but Mike ultimately rejected the idea – he wasn’t on board with it.
The composer explained that they’d already had what he considered their final argument. Because of that, he was simply refusing all suggestions.
On The Howard Stern Show on April 8th, White criticized Tapia de Veer’s decision to publicly complain, calling it a disrespectful act.
I’m really not sure what led to this situation,” White explained. “I’m only learning details now through his interviews, as he’s doing a publicity tour about his departure. It just feels like he didn’t have much respect for me.
The producer explained they didn’t actually have a real conflict. He clarified that what’s been described as a feud was simply him offering feedback.
According to White, their working relationship was successful for the first two seasons because they openly exchanged ideas. However, by the third season, Tapia de Veer no longer wanted to collaborate – he didn’t want to share his work, receive feedback, or even attend recording sessions.
And, White added, “He’s definitely making a big deal out of just a creative difference.”

As a lifestyle expert, I have to say I was thrilled when Jon Gries agreed to return for season three of the show! It was such a fun surprise, especially considering he played both Tanya’s intriguing Greg in season one and her husband in season two. But Jon himself seems to think that character – Greg, or now Gary – is done for good, at least as far as he knows. It definitely leaves things open-ended, which I love!
However, that’s what he thought last time.
He told The Hollywood Reporter that while he doesn’t plan to return, he’s never quite sure. With the season three finale leaving Gary’s secret intact, he added, “Every time I finish working on the show, I figure that’s it.”
Despite the attractive idea of a completely fresh cast at each resort – as White jokingly told The New Yorker, imagining being able to “burn down the house” and rebuild each season – the show has demonstrated that as long as a character isn’t dead…
Mike White consistently keeps everyone guessing with his creative choices,” said actor Nicholas Braun to The Hollywood Reporter. “I wasn’t expecting to be back for season two, and the same was true for season three. He always throws curveballs. I’d definitely be interested in returning, but I’m not sure if my character, Greg, has finished his story arc.”

Unless the show creates a backstory or explores alternate realities, it’s unlikely Jennifer Coolidge will reprise her role as Tanya except through a flashback or dream. Despite her character’s death in the season two finale – revealed as the mystery body from the premiere – fans have still held out hope for her return, especially considering she was the only character to return from season one.
While White acknowledges missing Coolidge, he understands and accepts Coolidge’s choice to eliminate Tanya, despite her good intentions, naiveté, and immense wealth.
Coolidge described White as someone who stands by his choices, speaking on TopMob News in January 2023 after the season finale. She said he’s a great friend, but he’d clearly decided how he wanted the show to end. He was aiming for a grand, dramatic conclusion to The White Lotus 2, and that meant Tanya had to be sacrificed.
She confirmed to The New Yorker that she wouldn’t be returning for season three, which was filmed in Thailand, stating, “I don’t think Tanya’s ever coming back, so I have to accept that.”
