We’ve been spending a lot of time playing Code Vein II this week, traveling through different eras to try and save the world from the effects of Luna Rapacis. The game successfully aims to improve on the original, making it a promising continuation of the Code Vein series.
Let’s be honest: the game isn’t perfect. However, its various elements work so well together that we’ve had a great time playing. It’s easy to get lost in the gameplay, and you might find yourself playing for hours! The story is engaging, and the combat and exploration are both really satisfying, all contributing to a compelling experience.
If you’re a gamer who really gets invested in a title, you’ll likely enjoy this one. Despite a few small issues, we found it incredibly entertaining and addictive. Let’s explore what makes Code Vein II so captivating!
A Tale Ravaged By Time
It’s often said that even the most powerful heroes can’t beat time. But in Code Vein II, the Revenant Hunter tries to do just that, traveling between the past and present. Their goal is to restore a once-vibrant world that has fallen from grace, a world that was once full of happiness and high principles.
The story is more complex than it seems, and we won’t reveal any details about the world it takes place in – or the awesome motorcycle! – just yet. Instead, we want to highlight what often makes or breaks a story: the characters you encounter.
What makes Code Vein II’s story so compelling is how it emphasizes emotional moments by showing us that characters’ hopes don’t ultimately come true. Getting to know their past selves – joining them on missions and learning about their dreams and personalities – is especially impactful because, as someone from the future, you already know how things will turn out, and it’s not good.

As you get to know the characters and understand what drives them, you form connections while trying to prevent their tragic fates. You’ll spend time assisting them in gathering important items, knowing these will be useful later on. The story isn’t just about emotional moments leading into action; it’s about using what you learn about their past selves to try and save their future, corrupted forms. Combined with the usual challenges of time travel, this makes Code Vein II‘s story truly captivating as it unfolds.
The whole experience feels like something out of an anime – and that’s a good thing! You’re incredibly motivated to uncover the mysteries of the world, and every new discovery fuels your desire to learn even more, even when you’re exhausted. But the story itself is only the start of what makes it special.
A World Across Timelines
The game features a compelling story and memorable characters, each with unique personalities. The richly detailed world isn’t just a backdrop, though – it allows their stories to unfold alongside your own. By weaving together the past, present, and different timelines, the game creates an engaging cycle of discovery that will keep you hooked.
The game features a vast open world that you’re free to explore on your bike, much like in Elden Ring. The excitement comes from discovering things yourself, as the game doesn’t hold your hand. While a map exists, you’ll need to fill it in, and even then, the map markers only point you towards areas of interest.

Once you reach a location, discovering exactly how to get inside is up to you. We spent a long time searching for the entrance to the facility that holds Nectar – something you’ll definitely want to find quickly, as it greatly improves your healing abilities. It took us almost an hour to find it, but it was a fun challenge! The game doesn’t guide you step-by-step, and that’s actually a positive aspect of the experience.
Some players mentioned missing a minimap, but we actually thought its absence added to the game’s immersive quality. It encourages you to pay attention to your surroundings, plan your own routes, and truly explore the environment – creating a feeling similar to navigating a dangerous, ruined world.
The game feels carefully designed, and the level layouts make finding key upgrades and story details challenging, but rewarding. Code Vein II intentionally prioritizes exploration over easy access, and this risk pays off – it encourages players to investigate and unravel the secrets of its world.
Ultimately, what really draws us into this game is the exciting combat, which comes to life as we experience the story and explore its world.
Fighting For The Future

Like many Souls-like games, Code Vein II is challenging, but more approachable than some others. Fortunately, the combat is excellent, making it a truly captivating and hard-to-stop-playing experience.
One of the biggest strengths of the game is how customizable your character can be. There are many different ways to build and play, and it’s incredibly easy to change things up on the go. The Blood Code system is key to this – each code offers unique stats and encourages players to experiment with different builds, as you can switch between them whenever you like.
Beyond just mechanics, Blood Codes let you deepen relationships with the characters, making combat feel connected to the story and motivating you to get to know everyone. This also applies to exploring the world and collecting Formae – the more you find, the more ways you have to customize your experience.
Combining your chosen Companion and unique Blood Code with the core combat mechanics creates a system that feels solid and lets players tackle tough battles in ways that fit their style. We frequently changed our gear and skills, always thinking about how they worked with our Companion’s strengths to find the best approach.

This game cleverly encourages teamwork and cooperation between characters, making it more approachable than many other challenging action games. Instead of just demanding perfect reflexes, it rewards players for understanding their own strategies and improving their skills, while still requiring precise timing for attacks, blocks, and special abilities.
With challenging jail encounters, strategic ichor management, and a generally robust combat system, Code Vein II is incredibly fun to play. It rewards experimentation and offers a lot of depth, letting you spend hours perfecting different character builds.
A Potent Mix Of Fun and Intrigue
As a fan, I’ve been thinking about why Code Vein II really grabbed me, and it’s clear the world, story, and gameplay all worked together so well. It felt like the game wanted you to build connections, just like you do with the characters and in combat. Everything felt interconnected, and the developers clearly had a lot of interesting ideas they wanted to share with us players throughout the whole experience.
Giving players real control and letting them shape the experience is what keeps them engaged and wanting to play more – it’s a difficult thing to accomplish, and we’re proud to have helped make it happen. However, before you go any further, we want to offer a quick warning.
Take your time and really savor this experience – you deserve some fun, and Code Vein II is here to deliver! Now, let’s head over to that intriguing ruin over there and see what secrets it holds.
