Pywel, the world where Crimson Desert is set, is easily one of my most anticipated places to visit in 2026. What makes me so excited about a game that’s still a long way from being released?
I get impatient waiting for highly anticipated games. While that’s not always a good trait, it motivates me to search for anything interesting to share and get others hyped up too – the more people excited, the better!
Exploring content for Crimson Desert led me to their YouTube channel, where I recalled the developers had previously shared a thorough preview of the gameplay. And I can confidently say, it looks fantastic!
Allow me to elaborate.
Intersectional Immersion
Okay, so the combat is seriously intense. You’re constantly swarmed by enemies, and even though my character, Kliff, is a skilled swordsman, they don’t hold back! But it’s more than just button-mashing; the battles actually feel like they’re driving the story forward. It builds this crazy tension while you’re still completely blown away by the action. It’s a really cool way to experience the narrative.
I think this fight probably happens later in the game’s story, but it would also work well as an introductory tutorial. Here’s why that’s a good idea: if it’s a later battle, we can meet Kliff’s companions earlier and even see their relationships with him develop through their own quests. This would give us a chance to understand their bond with Kliff as the story progresses.

This will really help you connect with the characters, adding suspense to the battles because you’ll actually care about who’s fighting alongside you. I expect the story will often put me in stressful situations, rushing to save a fellow Greymane when they’re in trouble.
I suspect some of Kliff’s abilities during the Black Bears fight, like healing through defeating enemies, might be unlocked later in the game. This makes me think that fight happens further into the story. It’s also possible it’s a tutorial segment, briefly showing off future abilities before Kliff is defeated and thrown into a river by a recurring enemy – someone he clearly has a history with and who holds a grudge against him.
This section could introduce the characters and hint at their stories, especially if they don’t survive to reach Kliff’s camp. It’s a fantastic way to make combat feel more intense and meaningful.
The battles are shaping up to be really exciting! Kliff is a fast and skilled fighter, performing impressive moves. The combat animations are fantastic, and fights feel balanced – neither side has an obvious advantage.

Playing this reminded me of the Arkham games by Rocksteady. It features fast-paced combat where you quickly switch targets and react to enemies, helping you stay in control. The way your actions and the enemies’ blend together feels like a chaotic dance – it’s unpredictable, so you constantly have to adjust your strategy to avoid getting overwhelmed.
It’s great that the combat is solid, especially since you’ll be fighting often. But a good action-adventure game needs more than just good battles. I’m really excited about exploring the world of Pywel and can’t wait until the game is released so I can finally start my adventure!
A Beautiful World With Much To Discover
Pywel is a visually stunning world with impressive landscapes and a lot of detail. However, a beautiful game needs more than just looks – what you do in the world is what truly makes those visuals worthwhile.
I’m really excited because it looks like Crimson Desert is going to deliver on that feeling of a living, breathing world! It’s packed with activity – people are just going about their lives, chatting as you ride past. I’m crossing my fingers they’ll let us turn off the objective markers on the map, so we can really explore and discover things naturally, instead of just following a path.

Beyond the immersive feeling of being in a vibrant, dynamic world, I’m really looking forward to shaping its story. Guiding Kliff as he unites the Greymanes and explores the world’s secrets promises to be a great adventure, especially if the missions continue to be as well-designed as those shown in the gameplay. The objectives flow smoothly and logically, making your actions feel natural and purposeful.
Achieving the game’s goals is really enjoyable. Being able to fly is a fantastic way to travel, but it’s also nice to ride a horse for a more traditional experience. Beyond the main story, there’s plenty to do as Kliff, including challenging boss battles.
The boss designs are all really impressive, and each one offers a unique set of abilities. I’m excited to face a challenging encounter in the game where I’ll need to use everything I have to survive and keep fighting.
I’m really hopeful that Crimson Desert will live up to my expectations, especially with its combat and open-world exploration. However, many games offer similar features. Right now, I’m enjoying Ghost of Yotei, which already has everything I’m looking for in a game like Crimson Desert.
So what makes Crimson Desert so special?
A Fantasy That Doesn’t Feel Like One

Just like the exciting journey in Atsu’s story, I’m really looking forward to playing Crimson Desert because of how well its action and adventure elements work together. The game’s medieval fantasy setting feels authentic thanks to gameplay that truly brings it to life and immediately grabs your attention.
While beautiful graphics can sometimes hide a lack of substance, as seen in other games, that’s not true for Pywel. The game’s stunning visuals actually enhance both exploring the world and fighting enemies, and are so well-integrated that you might forget to simply take a moment to appreciate them.
Crimson Desert is incredibly impressive, and it’s all down to how deeply engaging the game is. The world and story are captivating, and the exploration and combat keep you hooked. It’s rare for a game to hold attention these days, but Crimson Desert seems to do so naturally – watching the gameplay makes me excited to actually play it.
It’s disappointing the game was pushed back to next year, but maybe that’s a good thing. It avoids competing with so many other great games that could have overshadowed it. I still think it’s strong enough to be among the best open-world games released this year, or next year now.

Unfortunately, I’m still waiting to start playing. I’m counting down the days until I can join Kliff and fully dedicate myself to Pywel and the Greymanes. But as soon as Crimson Desert comes to my console, I’ll jump right in! I have a really good feeling about this game – the gameplay seems perfect, and I’m confident I’m going to love it.
