Why Demi Sang “Heart Attack” at American Heart Association Event

Demi Lovato wants to explain why she ever did that.  

Although some were surprised when Demi sang “Heart Attack” at a 2024 charity event for the American Heart Association, it became clear she had good intentions.

She explained that she was asked to perform the song, even though she had previously questioned whether it was a good fit. She mentioned bringing up her concerns beforehand, saying, ‘Isn’t this a little off?’ but was told the producers specifically wanted it included, as she shared during an appearance on iHeartRadio’s Elvis Duran Show in March.

Demi remembered that some fans pointed out the irony of performing that song for a heart health organization – an organization dedicated to preventing heart attacks, of all things.

She explained that after she performed the song, people online questioned her choice. She responded by saying she hadn’t requested the song and had actually asked someone to remove it.

To which Elvis Duran joked, “I thought that was the worst idea ever of yours.”

According to a spokesperson for Entertainment Weekly, she discussed the link between mental and emotional well-being. The moment was meant to be supportive of the women present, and that’s why Demi Moore attended the event.

The rep added, “It was actually a beautiful moment.”

As many of you know, I went through a really difficult time back in 2018 – a near-fatal overdose led to a heart attack and three strokes. So, this song felt like a way to connect with others who’ve faced their own battles and to show them they’re not alone.

I was so moved when she introduced her new song! She explained it’s about the whole rollercoaster of love – the amazing highs of falling for someone, and the pain when things end. But it’s also about being brave enough to open yourself up again, even after getting hurt. She shared that the song really reflects her own personal journey, and it made me realize just how connected our thoughts, feelings, and physical health really are. It was a powerful moment for everyone there, honestly.

 

Demi, who married Jutes last May, is currently doing very well and feels happy and healthy both mentally and physically.

If she could give her younger self some advice, she’d tell her to hang in there – all the effort will eventually pay off.
