Ariana Grande couldn’t defy gravity for this special occasion.
The singer, known for her hit song “Popular,” won’t be able to attend the Brazil premiere of Wicked: For Good with Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, and others. She’s experiencing a problem with her flight that’s preventing her from traveling on November 4th.
Ariana Grande shared on Instagram that she unfortunately won’t be able to perform in Brazil as planned. Her flight experienced a safety issue requiring maintenance, and won’t be able to take off until tomorrow morning, making it impossible for her to arrive in time for the show. She expressed her devastation about the situation.
The 32-year-old actress, who will play Glinda alongside Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba in the upcoming Wicked movies (the first releasing in 2024 and the second on November 21st), explained that she and Universal Pictures have exhausted all options to resolve the issue, even looking into alternative flights.
However, none of those alternatives would get her there before the film’s premiere.
Ariana Grande explained that even trying to arrange a private flight to attend an event requires a permit that takes time to get. She expressed her sadness at not being able to be there, asking fans to show her wonderful costars lots of love and enjoy a beautiful celebration on her behalf. She sincerely apologized for her absence.
Although she couldn’t join her Wicked castmates in person, Ariana sent some love to her co-star Jonathan Bailey. She and the rest of the cast—including director Jon M. Chu, Marissa Bode, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Bowen Yang, and Ethan Slater—created a fun video celebrating Bailey being named People‘s Sexiest Man Alive for 2025.

The 37-year-old anticipated his friends and family would be happily surprised by his accomplishment, despite having to keep it under wraps for a while.
Jonathan told People magazine in an interview on November 3rd that he expected many of his friends to be upset at first that he hadn’t shared something with them. However, he also predicted they’d quickly become very excited about it. He added that because they’ve known him for so long, they’ve seen him change and already know a lot about his life and his personal history.
While the highly anticipated film Wicked is coming out this month, it’s not the only exciting movie release. Here are some other standout films from 2025 to look forward to…
