Taylor Swift can’t check off more Grammy nominations from her wish list quite yet.
When the 2026 Grammy nominations came out on November 7th, some fans were surprised that Taylor’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl, wasn’t nominated. However, it wasn’t a deliberate omission – the album was eligible, but simply wasn’t considered this year.
Turns out, she simply wasn’t eligible this go ’round.
As a huge music fan and Grammy Awards follower, I always make sure to keep track of the eligibility dates. Basically, to be considered for a Grammy, a project has to be released during the specific timeframe. For this year’s awards, that meant anything released between August 31st, 2024, and August 30th, 2025, could be nominated. It’s a pretty strict rule, but it ensures everything being judged is current!
Taylor Swift released her album, The Life of a Showgirl, on October 3, 2025, after the deadline for award consideration had passed. She didn’t release any singles from the album beforehand, and hadn’t put out any new music since her previous album, The Tortured Poets Department, in April 2024. This meant she had no eligible releases during the relevant award period this year.
Although Taylor Swift’s latest album won’t be considered for the 2026 Grammy Awards, it is eligible for nomination next year, giving her a chance to potentially win more Grammys in 2027 and add to her current total of 14.
This year, Kendrick Lamar, who previously worked with Taylor Swift on “Bad Blood,” received the most nominations with a total of nine. He was also nominated for Album of the Year for his album GNX, making him the first rapper to ever receive five lead artist nominations in that category.

The artist behind “Not Like Us” received the most nominations, but Lady Gaga was a close second with seven. Bad Bunny and Sabrina Carpenter each earned six nominations as well.
This year’s Grammy nominations were historic for several reasons, including ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’s recognition for their song “APT.” This nomination marks the first time a K-pop artist – ROSÉ of Blackpink – has been nominated as a lead performer in one of the Grammys’ biggest categories: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best New Artist.
The 68th Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live on CBS on Sunday, February 1st, 2026, from Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.
Although The Life of a Showgirl isn’t up for any awards at the 2026 Grammys, you can find more information about Taylor’s incredibly popular album here…

The first song on Taylor Swift’s album, The Life of a Showgirl, alludes to Ophelia, a character from William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, who experiences a heartbreaking story.
The song suggests Taylor could have been overwhelmed by sadness if it weren’t for the person she loves.
“I heard you calling / On the megaphone,” Taylor sings. “You wanna see me all alone.”
The song seems to reference Travis Kelce playfully teasing Taylor Swift on his podcast, New Heights, about her not being able to meet up with him during her Eras Tour – which is actually how their relationship started.
“I swore loyalty to me, myself and I,” the lyrics continue. “Right before you lit my sky up.”
Before she started dating Travis, Taylor had recently ended things with Matty Healy and had publicly described herself as single and independent in July 2023.
But after Travis went to her concert in Kansas City that same month, sparks began to fly.
Taylor’s fiancé is now participating in her tradition of hiding clues, or “Easter eggs,” for fans. Back in July, he hinted at lyrics from her song “The Fate of Ophelia” on Instagram, posting pictures with Taylor and writing that they’d had some fun adventures and were “keeping it real.”
So, how does this relate to Taylor’s song? The lyrics say, “You dug me out of my grave and saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia / Keep it one hundred,” which explains the connection.

Oh my gosh, you guys, did you hear the second track?! It totally blew me away! Taylor paid tribute to the incredible Elizabeth Taylor – a total legend! – and it wasn’t just a little shout-out. She actually named Elizabeth’s favorite places! Like, can you imagine? Paris’ Plaza Athénée and Musso & Frank’s in LA? It’s like Taylor knew exactly how to honor her, and it’s just…everything!
Taylor’s lyrics also compare her to Elizabeth Taylor. Similar to Taylor herself, Elizabeth was frequently in the news, whether it was about her relationships or her glamorous style.
But, as Taylor notes in her song, “Oftentimes it doesn’t feel so glamorous to be me.”

In the cheerful song “Opalite,” which Travis Kelce has said is his favorite from Taylor Swift’s Showgirl era, Swift sings about their relationship.
Taylor has experienced a lot of heartbreak in the past, but her relationship with Travis feels peaceful and serene, like a calm, shimmering sky.
You know, I’m a big believer in meaningful gifts, and I recently shared a little story about finding the perfect present for someone special. I was doing some research and discovered that something called opalite isn’t actually a natural opal – it’s manmade! But the stone itself is beautiful, and it happens to be this person’s birthstone, so I’ve always been drawn to it. I just love the idea of gifting something with that personal connection.
She explained the meaning of the fake gemstone, saying, “I saw it as a nice symbol – just like the opal is created by people, happiness can be, too.”
But some fans believe Taylor subtly referenced Travis Kelce’s former girlfriend, Kayla Nicole, in her song. They think the lyrics suggest Kelce felt like he was just an accessory in photos on her social media.
She sings, as if addressing him, about a disconnect: “You didn’t get it, you couldn’t understand why you felt so lonely. You were truly invested, while she was distracted by her phone.”
The lyrics describe a fleeting connection – someone who seemed to be putting on an act. It questions the effort we put into love, and then notes a final departure. The song ends with a stark observation: desire fades, and what once felt essential can disappear.

Taylor Swift, Max Martin, and Shellback are officially listed as the writers of the song “Showgirl.” However, the late George Michael is also credited on “Father Figure” because that song uses a portion of his 1987 hit with the same title.
Taylor Swift’s team showed their support, with George’s team posting on Instagram on October 2nd, “Thank you @taylorswift for including George in such a special moment.”
Many fans believe the first part of the song is told from the point of view of Scott Borchetta, the head of Big Machine Records, who sold Taylor Swift’s original recordings to Scooter Braun. They think the song then shifts to Taylor’s perspective as she works to regain ownership of her music.
Taylor herself admitted that the song was “written in character.”
She mentioned on BBC Radio 1 that writing the piece was enjoyable. She explained it explores the concept of a father figure in a new way, using it to discuss power, how power is organized, and shifts in who holds it.
She’s particularly pleased with a risqué line in her work where she boasts about having a larger… stature, framing it as a bargaining chip when ‘making deals with the devil’.

We’re now at the fifth track on Taylor Swift’s Showgirl, and historically, this is where she places her most emotionally devastating songs.
In her song “Eldest Daughter,” Taylor Swift reflects on the ups and downs of life, emphasizing her unwavering loyalty to her family – including her parents, Andrea and Scott Swift, and her brother, Austin Swift.
The song emphasizes loyalty and strength, stating, ‘I’m not someone who will cause trouble, and this isn’t about being ruthless.’ It promises unwavering support: ‘I’ll never let you down or abandon you.’ Despite facing betrayal from others—described as ‘traitors’ and ‘smooth operators’—the singer vows to always keep their promises.

The sixth track on the album Showgirl recounts a missed romantic opportunity and the lingering regret that follows. The lyrics evoke a nostalgic feeling, remembering a prom night where the singer observes a connection between someone else and the person they secretly desired. They reflect on a moment – symbolized by a drooping corsage and a fleeting glance – where a potential kiss was never taken, even though the energy felt right as a 50 Cent song played in the background.
Taylor Swift references her close friend, Abigail Anderson – who inspired the song “Fifteen” – in poignant lyrics about loss. She sings about losing touch after school and learning sad news from Abigail, expressing a sense of unanswered questions and finality: “When I left school, I lost track of you / Abigail called me with the bad news / Goodbye, and we’ll never know why.”
As a long-time fan, I’ve always felt a deep connection to this song, and many of us believe it’s a tribute to Taylor’s friend, Jeff Lang. He sadly passed away in 2010, and it’s thought he was also the inspiration behind her earlier song, “Forever Winter.” It just feels so personal and touching knowing that.
I’ve always connected so deeply with this song from her Red album – especially the lines about not realizing how much she was hurting and feeling like she’d completely fall apart without that person. It really hits me when she sings about being too young to understand things will improve, and then that beautiful promise to be someone’s constant sunshine, contrasted with the idea of endless winter if they were to leave. It’s just… raw and honest, and I feel it every time.

Despite its title, ‘Actually Romantic’ isn’t really a love song. Instead, it’s Taylor Swift’s lyrical response to someone who frequently talks about her.
Oh my god, it’s just… everything she says gets me. Like, she’s singing about accidentally high-fiving her ex – can you even imagine the awkwardness? – and then her new guy actually said he was happy her ex just disappeared on her! It’s so messed up, but then she says he wrote her a whole song about how much he hates looking at her, and she thinks it’s… sweet?! Some people would be horrified, but honestly, it’s the most real, raw thing ever. It’s like, he’s so brutally honest, and she gets it. It’s perfect. I just… I feel so seen when she sings about stuff like this.
Taylor Swift doesn’t usually share the real-life inspirations behind her songs, but many fans think a recent one was about Charli XCX. Charli opened for Taylor on the Reputation Tour and is also friends with Taylor’s former boyfriend, Matty, and his partner, Gabbriette Bechtel.
After Charli released her album brat in June 2024, some people wondered if her song “Sympathy is a Knife” was about Taylor Swift. However, Taylor quickly cleared things up two months later by publicly praising Charli’s work, seemingly ending the speculation. Charli is married to George Daniel, a member of the band The 1975.
Taylor recently told New York magazine that she’s been impressed with Charli’s talent for creating catchy melodies ever since hearing her song ‘Stay Away’ back in 2011. She praised Charli’s consistently creative and unique songwriting, noting that she always finds unexpected directions for her songs. Taylor added that it’s rewarding to see such dedication and hard work recognized.
Fans are speculating about a possible connection to Charli XCX. Taylor Swift’s Spotify cover art features an apple, which is the title of Charli’s popular 2024 song.
TopMob News has reached out to reps for comment on the speculation and has not heard back.

On the very top of Taylor’s wish list? A forever with Travis. That includes starting a family.
“I just want you,” she sings. “Have a couple kids / Got the whole block looking like you.”
The artist even admitted it’s one of her favorite tracks on the album.
She explained to Magic radio that recording that particular song signaled the end of the album process. She described it as a deeply emotional track that honestly reflected her current life situation, leading her to feel like they had finished everything they needed to do.

Taylor says wishing on stars never helped her find love before. But now that she’s with Travis, she feels confident and doesn’t feel the need to rely on luck at all.
In the song, she sings that she doesn’t need to catch the wedding bouquet to realize a difficult time is coming.
She was correct – Taylor and Travis got engaged in August 2025, after dating for two years.
The song features suggestive lyrics and also references New Heights, the show Taylor says brought her and Travis together.

In the tenth song, Taylor describes supporting someone who’s facing public backlash, drawing on her own past experiences with being ‘canceled’.
She warned, “Let’s leave now, because people will panic when they see us.” She then added, almost to herself, “It’s actually good that my friends bailed – I prefer them mysterious and a little bit controversial.”
People have guessed the song might be about Taylor Swift’s friendships with Brittany Mahomes or Blake Lively, which have sometimes been criticized.
The singer explained her perspective comes from understanding what it’s like to face public struggles, possibly drawing from the highly publicized conflict between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in 2016.
“Having had my own experiences with mass judgment and being at the center of many dramatic, scandalous moments in my career, where people were all weighing in at once or at least it felt like that,” she told Amazon Music, “having had those experiences, it makes me move through the world a little bit differently.”
Taylor added that seeing others face challenges often makes you realize they’ll likely grow from the experience. If they can persevere, they’ll become stronger and wiser as a result.
Ultimately, ‘Cancelled!’ is about my refusal to automatically dismiss someone simply because others disapprove of them. I form my own opinions of people based on their behavior and how they treat me personally.

As delightful as the name suggests, honey is a central theme in Taylor Swift’s eleventh track. She explains that Travis Kelce has given these traditionally sentimental words – like ‘honey’ and ‘sweetheart’ – entirely new meaning for her, now associating them with him instead of past experiences.
Taylor sings about feeling uplifted and joyful when someone calls her ‘honey.’ She describes a bright, summery feeling – like a refreshing drink and pink skies – and playfully suggests she’s the person they desire.
In fact, Travis did call Taylor “sweetie” during her debut appearance on New Heights in August.

For her final act, Taylor teamed up with friend Sabrina Carpenter.
The song “Elizabeth Taylor” offers a look into the life of a showgirl, revealing that even in a seemingly glamorous world, there are sacrifices. An experienced performer shares this reality with a rising star.
The song’s words tell a story of someone longing for a wonderful life, saying they’d give anything to experience it. But the lyrics point out that’s not the reality for showgirls, who are often discarded and forgotten.
Finally, after experiencing what it’s like to be a showgirl, the performers come together for a closing bow, cheerfully saying, “That’s all folks! We appreciate you, and goodnight!”
The song is about encountering someone you admire, and them surprisingly advising you not to pursue the same path. They’re just being real about the difficulties of the entertainment industry, but you decide to follow your dreams anyway, despite the warning.
