As a seasoned observer of dance competitions and human relationships, I must say that Dancing with the Stars has seen its fair share of romantic rumors over the years. Some were just flirtatious flings (like Maks and Erin), while others blossomed into beautiful love stories (Meryl and Maks, anyone?).
It may take two to tango, but that doesn’t mean it should always become something more.
Val Chmerkovskiy, a professional dancer on “Dancing With the Stars,” recently spoke openly about the romantic entanglements that often occur between the dancers and celebrities on the show. Although the 38-year-old, who married fellow pro Jenna Johnson in 2019, acknowledged his past involvement in such relationships, he has since shifted his perspective.
In the past, during my early seasons, some of my dance partners and I had romantic interactions – I find that behavior to be highly unprofessional, he shared on the Dec. 3 episode of the Lightweights Podcast with host Joe Vulpis. “Since I am their mentor and partner, there’s a sense of authority involved. It’s like you shouldn’t pollute your own environment, which is similar to the saying ‘Don’t soil the nest where you hatch your eggs.’
Val, a contestant on the show since 2006, remarked, “I take my job and skills very seriously. To engage during this season, which is now over, is different. We’re both mature individuals, we’re not in a professional setting. However, during the competition, I felt it was sometimes inappropriate.
To put it simply, though he admitted that on-screen romances provided a captivating spectacle for viewers, he confided that these romantic storylines posed challenges for him during the seasons of the show.
“Behind closed doors,” he noted, “I undermined my own season by doing that.”
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but ponder over the influence of social media on the captivating show we all love, which allows us to cast our votes for our favorite couples and witness the evolving romances. This dad, who happens to be Rome’s 23-month-old son’s father and is partnered with Jenna, shares my sentiments as he reflects on this very topic.
He pointed out that during his time on the show, social media wasn’t as lively as it is today. Back then, it was just tabloids and similar sources. However, he noted that social media has significantly transformed things now, almost revolutionizing the entire scene.
Indeed, the 33rd season of Dancing With the Stars was marked by rumors of a blossoming relationship between dancer Sasha Farber and Bachelorette contestant Jenn Tran. Additionally, there was also the tumultuous romance between pro dancer Gleb Savchenko and model Brooks Nader.
He added of show-mances, “If it’s genuine, it’s awesome. When it’s authentic and it’s two consenting adults enjoying their time together, I love that.”
Val takes exception, however, when he sees people playing up their chemistry for votes.
He pointed out that when it comes to two individuals performing for an audience, they often exploit algorithms to boost their likes, views, and other metrics. However, he dislikes anything that is not genuine or authentic.
“So if it’s authentic,” he concluded. “I love that.”
Additionally, Val emphasized the significance of a strong bond between the professional and their famous counterpart. However, it’s crucial to note that… (followed by the important caveat)
Often, when people talk about ‘chemistry,’ they seem to be using the term interchangeably with romance,” he mused. “However, chemistry isn’t solely defined by sexual attraction. Instead, it encompasses camaraderie, compatibility, and friendship. It’s that sense of trust and openness you feel when connecting with someone deeply.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I couldn’t help but notice an exquisite display of emotional vulnerability this season between two partners – my partner, the remarkable Jenna, and the charming Bachelor alum, Joey Graziadei.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but express my belief that the captivating chemistry between Jenna and Joey stemmed from his openness on an emotional level and his wholehearted commitment to their shared project. Not only did he provide a fertile ground for this connection, but Jenna also responded in kind, unveiling her own self as they delved deeper into the work.
It was a vulnerability that paid off, as Joey and Jenna would go on to win the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy. And since Val won the previous season with partner Xochitl Gomez, he was able to hand off the trophy to his wife.
He declared it as an incredible experience, stating, “That moment was undeniably my top pick on Dancing with the Stars. It’s not even in the same league.
However, it’s not just Val and Jenna who found enduring love within the show. Many other couples from Dancing With the Stars also experienced romantic connections, so if you’re interested in learning more about their stories, continue reading.
In a intriguing twist on season 31, the ex-Bachelorette and the star from ‘Jersey Shore’ fueled dating speculations through their playful banter on social media platforms and cryptic replies when questioned about their potential relationship.

During the Switch Up week of Season 21, Alek got along particularly well with Hayes Grier. He even referred to her as “very attractive.” However, following her elimination, Emma hinted that she and Alek had not gone out on a date yet, suggesting they might in the future by saying, “We’ll see.
Regarding Alek and Emma’s relationship: Based on Alek’s habit of blushing and evading questions about his feelings for Emma, it seems their affection may have been genuine, as suggested by TopMob News. However, since Emma stopped appearing on the dating market after Skarlatos’ 2015 run, if their feelings were mutual, they might not have been as strong as one might assume in a long-term relationship context.
Moving forward, we come to discuss the couple who had an on-off relationship since 2011. They became officially engaged during their TV show in October 2016, later marrying in March 2018. Regrettably, as of August 2022, TopMob News reported that Slater and Farber were ending their four-year marriage.
“Even though things didn’t work out romantically for us, we were undeniably genuine in our bond, and that hasn’t changed post-split. We continue to be good friends and maintain a professional relationship on set.”
Emma shared with TopMob News, “There’s nothing scary about it; quite the contrary. Sasha and I have a strong bond of mutual support. I genuinely wish her all the best.
Val and Jenna had been dating back in 2015, before she advanced to become a professional dancer. They got engaged in June of 2018, and tied the knot in April of 2019. In July 2022, they shared the news that they were going to have their first child together. Eventually, in January 2023, they welcomed a son named Rome Valentin into their family.
In an interview with TopMob News last May 2023, Val expressed that life is truly wonderful. He added that becoming a father has significantly increased his appreciation for life, his family, and each day brings a new learning experience as a parent.
