Why Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi Are Selling $30 Million U.K. Home

Ellen DeGeneresand Portia de Rossi have moved yet again.

Approximately eight months following their move to the U.K., the ex-talk show host and her spouse are now listing their Cotswolds mansion for sale and have decided to reside in a different local property to cater to Portia’s pets.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal on July 22, Ellen explained that since we opted to reside here permanently, it was clear that Portia couldn’t do without her horses. Consequently, we were in search of a residence equipped with a horse facility and pastures suitable for their needs.

The actress known for her role in “Arrested Development” and the comedian are currently marketing Kitesbridge Farm, their 43-acre property located in the English countryside, for sale.

In the spring of 2024, Ellen and Portia acquired a property for approximately $20 million, as it needed significant updates due to being rather worn out with a simple finish, as reported by Andrew Barnes, the listing agent, to the Journal.

Currently, Kitesbridge Farm, featuring an enclosed heated pool, fitness center, and a spacious party barn complete with its own tavern, is up for sale at approximately $30 million.

At the beginning of this month, the actress who played the lead in “Finding Dory” announced that instead of dividing their time between the UK and elsewhere as initially planned, they have chosen to settle down there permanently after the re-election of President Donald Trump.

During a public event in Cheltenham, England on July 20th, as reported by the BBC, Ellen stated, “We arrived the day prior to the election, and upon waking up, found numerous messages from friends with sad emojis. I replied, ‘He won’, to which we responded, ‘We’re not leaving.’

Plus, the comedian and her wife—who celebrated 20 years together in March—love the country.

She went on, expressing her awe. “This place is breathtakingly gorgeous,” she said, “and it’s not something we usually encounter. The villages, the towns, and their structures – everything here exudes an endearing charm, and it seems like a more straightforward way of living.

1. After concluding its 19-season run in 2022 amid allegations of a hostile work environment and an internal investigation followed by executive dismissals and public disapproval, the popular talk show hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, known as “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” took a hiatus.
2. In September 2024, Ellen made her comeback with her stand-up special titled “For Your Approval” on Netflix. Prior to this performance, she announced that it would be her final act in show business.
3. Speaking during her tour, Ellen’s Last Stand…Up, she declared, as reported by SFGate, “This is the last time you’ll see me.” She further added, “After my Netflix special, I’m retiring from Hollywood.”

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but express my excitement over the news that Ellen and her cherished partner, Portia de Rossi, have apparently decided to embark on a new adventure in England. Rumors abound about this relocation, suggesting it might be connected to the potential re-election of Donald Trump in 2024. However, they have yet to offer any official comments regarding their reasons for this move.

One reason the host of America’s Next Top Model relocated to Australia was to oversee her ice cream brand SMiZE and Dream, which had a significant production facility there. She frequently visited Australia due to this, and she grew fond of the country each time she returned. Not only did she enjoy living there, but she also saw it as a promising market for her business since it ranks among the top three countries with the highest ice cream consumption, alongside America and New Zealand. Consequently, she moved to Australia along with her son York (Erik Asla being his father) and partner Louis Bélanger-Martin, expressing that Australia had fulfilled a longstanding dream for her and her family.

After a significant period living on Wisteria Lane as the Desperate Housewives star, she’s since relocated to a new place off-screen. Eva spoke about her departure from Los Angeles in November 2024 with Marie Claire, mentioning that even before the pandemic, the city was undergoing changes and the ambiance felt different. The arrival of Covid accelerated these transformations, pushing her to conclude that this phase of her life was coming to an end.

For several years now, Eva, her husband José Bastón, and their son Santiago have been dividing their time between Mexico and Spain. She emphasized her fortunate position to be able to leave and go somewhere, expressing concern for those who are stuck in the United States amidst its current challenging circumstances.

Eva clarified that her decision to move wasn’t motivated by President Trump’s re-election. Instead, she explained on The View: Behind the Table podcast in November 2024 that her work took her overseas since the filming of Land of Women—with six months spent in Catalonia and four months in Mexico for Searching for Mexico—and has been residing there ever since. She expressed dislike towards the politicization of her move.

Since relocating, Eva has continued to keep herself busy with roles in shows like Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.

The actor recently revealed that he and his wife, who is Spanish, will be moving from Chicago to Madrid for several years. This decision was made because they have lived in the United States for about seven years, and they want to spend time in Spain. This move is also beneficial for their young sons, Alexander and James, as they are bilingual and will thrive in Spain. The family seems to be very happy with this change, as Richard stated that they are experiencing a period of great happiness.

The singer (Christina) and her family reside in Paris from morning till night, having permanently moved there so their children could attend school in France. This decision was made to provide them with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the French language and culture. Christina enjoys a balanced lifestyle in Paris, where she maintains an active daytime routine for her family, and works during the evenings since her work schedule is ahead of the local time zone.

Lindsay grew weary of speculations surrounding her departure from Los Angeles. To clarify matters, she explained that her intense workload and the chaos of parties during the 2000s often overshadowed her professional accomplishments due to paparazzi attention when she was younger.

In an interview with Bustle in March 2024, The Parent Trap alum expressed her feelings: “I feel like a part of my work wasn’t given its due recognition because of the constant attention from paparazzi and other distractions when I was young. That can be quite annoying.” She added, “I wish that part didn’t happen. It felt like it spiraled out of control. So, I decided to step away. I thought, ‘If there’s nothing newsworthy here, they won’t focus on just my work.'”

Later on, Lindsay relocated first to London and then to Dubai, also opening beach clubs in Greece. However, she also sought a change of scenery for another reason—to escape the glare of the limelight.

The Mean Girls actor expressed, ‘What if I never experience love? What if it never occurs?’ She continued. Time for self-reflection led to numerous opportunities opening up, with affirmative responses – the chances she longed to accept. Indeed, Lindsay eventually found love in Bader Shammas, marrying him in 2022 and giving birth to their son Luai the year after. Currently residing in Dubai, Lindsay hasn’t entirely departed from Hollywood, gracing the screens in movies such as Our Little Secret, Irish Wish, and Freakier Friday.

Josh, who starred in Black Mirror, found himself yearning for a change after spending time in Hollywood. As he told People in July 2024, “Hollywood is more than just a location; it’s a way of life. Being surrounded by people who are always discussing the film industry can make your existence rather one-dimensional, and I never wanted that.” Instead, he sought something more diverse. “I’ve always been drawn to being around individuals engaged in a multitude of activities that would help me step away from my work and grow in various aspects,” Josh explained. “To me, that’s the essence of life.” Consequently, Josh, his wife Tamsin Egerton, and their four kids decided to relocate to England’s Hampshire countryside. In an interview with The Guardian also in July 2024, he shared, “Time moves swiftly. With four children, there’s always much to do. In a sense, less is happening, but more of the meaningful moments are taking place.” Despite his move, Josh has remained active and taken on roles in Verity, Fight or Flight, and Trap.

If you haven’t been keeping up with your social media accounts, you might not be aware that Jesse doesn’t reside in Los Angeles anymore. In February 2025, he revealed to CBS News Sunday Morning that he had spent the last decade living on and off in Indiana, a place where he feels most comfortable. He added that he finds the entertainment industry unstable and prefers not to be surrounded by it.

Jesse is an Oscar nominee, but his life is quite ordinary with his wife Anna Strout and son Banner. He doesn’t use social media or spend much time talking to industry contacts on the phone, which makes his life feel separate from the world of Hollywood. His wife is a teacher, and their son, Banner, does not watch many movies, so Jesse doesn’t have to constantly worry about his standing in the entertainment industry.

Following stints in television shows like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the film “Bring It On” in 2000, Eliza disclosed in September 2024 that she had earned certification in psychedelic-assisted therapy and was continuing her education to become a mental health practitioner.

She shared with Boston Magazine, “I had the opportunity to change my path in life and concentrate on healing myself first, so I could assist others in their healing journey. It would be unfair not to express the transformation, tranquility, and fervor that I’ve experienced now. This is undeniably my true calling, my genuine purpose.

In January 2025, the star of The Flintstones, along with her youngest son Clay, relocated to Ireland. She’s currently working on obtaining Irish citizenship since her grandparents hail from that European nation. Despite her mentioning recent political changes as the reason for her departure, she didn’t completely rule out a future return to her home country.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve shared my feelings in a recent TikTok video: “I yearn for the companionship of my beloved family members who I left behind. My cherished friends are deeply missed too. Life at home held many treasures that I can’t help but long for, and I’m on a quest to create a new sanctuary here in this captivating nation. However, once America ensures equal rights for all its citizens, then we will ponder over the idea of returning.

Actress who played a role in “Ant-Man and the Wasp” has decided to temporarily step away from her acting career, marking her departure after two decades in Hollywood.

On Instagram in June 2024, Evangeline shared, “I’m bursting with happiness and contentment today as I follow my dreams. I’m incredibly thankful for all that I have. It can be intimidating to stray from what appears to be the usual path (wealth and fame), but embracing your true calling replaces fear with a sense of accomplishment.

However, it’s not a guarantee that she’s closing the door permanently. She further clarified, “There’s a possibility I may revisit Hollywood in the future, but for the moment, this is where I feel at home.

Since wrapping up his role in the 2019 Netflix series “V-Wars,” the former star of “The Vampire Diaries” hasn’t taken on any new acting gigs. Instead, he has immersed himself more deeply into a personal endeavor – his commitment to addressing climate change by enhancing soil quality worldwide.

Ian, father of two with Nikki Reed, shared with TopMob News in November 2023 that he had taken a break from acting approximately four years prior to focus on raising his children, developing his businesses, and bringing forth the documentaries, “Kiss the Ground” (released in 2020) and its sequel, “Common Ground.” These films emphasize the importance of regenerative farming.

As I gaze into the future, I envision myself as a dedicated rancher, crafting enduring brand names, be it for my very own bourbon or my health and wellness company. My commitment to regenerative agriculture and sustainable soil management practices runs deep within me and my family, making them an integral part of our lives. This is the path I’ve chosen, and when others ask, “Why do you take such interest?” I point to this vision – it’s who I am, it’s where I see myself growing.

In the captivating February 2021 episode of my esteemed podcast “Empty Inside,” I shared with my delightful co-host, Anna Faris, that I’ve taken a break from acting several years ago. Nowadays, I find myself immersed in the realms of writing, directing, and of course, continuing to host this engaging platform.

In her memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died” published in 2022, Jennette candidly expressed her feelings about her acting career, stating, “I’ve been deeply ashamed of the roles I took on earlier in my career. I harbor a lot of resentment towards it. I feel incredibly unfulfilled by the characters I portrayed and found them to be overly cheesy and cringeworthy. From the age of 13 to 21, I starred in shows that I’ve been embarrassed about since I was 15. Even my friends at 15 didn’t find it cool that I was on a Nickelodeon show; instead, they found it embarrassing.

Although she hasn’t completely ruled out a return to acting, she expressed during an interview with TopMob News in October 2022 that writing her book has given her new perspective. She suggested that writing something personal for herself might be the best opportunity for her to consider trying acting again without the burden she carried for such a long time.

This seemed almost inevitable. If we had the chance to wed Prince Harry, commit ourselves to charitable endeavors that resonate deeply with us, and have the unique opportunity to tap into the Queen’s magnificent collection of tiaras, saying goodbye to Hollywood might not be so difficult.

After following in the footsteps of Grace Kelly, who transitioned from Hollywood to Monaco’s Palace, Meghan Markle relinquished her home in Toronto and her popular role on Suits for a life within The Firm. However, after Harry and Meghan stepped down from their senior positions and moved to Montecito, California, she has started re-entering the business sphere through ventures such as their multi-year production deal with Netflix.

The Duchess of Sussex has recently released her 2022 docuseries titled Harry & Meghan on the streaming platform, along with a 2025 lifestyle show called With Love, Meghan. She’s also launched podcasts and her brand As Ever.

Since she first appeared in “The Mask” in 1994, this actress has been involved in more than 40 films. By the time shooting for “Annie” ended in 2014, it was clear that she had worked tirelessly and deserved a well-earned rest.

In our recent heart-to-heart, I shared with my dear friend Gwyneth Paltrow that I felt it was time for a change in my life’s direction. After years of relentless work, filmmaking, and the endless grind, I found myself yearning for something new. The process of making a movie can be all-consuming – it becomes an unyielding demand on your time and energy, leaving little room for personal pursuits. As much as I love my craft, I’ve come to realize that when you’re immersed in filmmaking for extended periods, the studio essentially owns you. You’re there for 12 hours a day, month after month, with no respite to explore other aspects of life.

Moreover, there were many other areas she was eager to delve into, such as writing (having published her 2013 New York Times best-seller The Body Book followed by 2016’s The Longevity Book) and starting a family with husband Benji Madden. However, as she admitted to InStyle in 2019, “I don’t miss performing. Currently, I’m focusing on the realm of wellness and more,” it seems she might be persuaded to make a comeback at least once.

In conversation with TopMob News, Jamie Foxx explained his heartfelt plea to Cameron Diaz for the 2025 Netflix movie “Back in Action”. He shared, “We humbly asked and showed our excitement, something like, ‘Please give us one more chance,'” expressing their affection and anticipation. He added, “She’s amazing, we’ve been eagerly waiting for her, and this collaboration is going to be simply magnificent.

After completing a five-year stint on Empire, the actor made it clear that there wouldn’t be any more performances. When asked about his future by Extra prior to the sixth and last season of the musical drama series in 2019, he stated, “I’ve had enough acting. I’m finished with pretending.

Despite coming back for a few roles, the Oscar nominee declared his intentions to retire from acting while publicizing his Peacock series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, in 2022. He explained to ET, “I’ve reached the stage where I’ve given my utmost as an actor. Now, I prefer to observe fresh talent emerging, and I don’t want to mimic myself anymore.”

Though some people may have had their doubts initially, I’ve been delighted to see Howard reappearing on our screens lately. For instance, he’s featured in the TV series “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist” and the Netflix film “Shirley”. Moreover, there are several exciting projects scheduled for him in the time to come.

After my unexpected and vivid end as King Joffrey in 2014, at the tender age of 21, I decided it was time for me to step away from the acting world. As a veteran of the industry since the age of eight, I confessed to EW that my passion for acting had waned. “I simply didn’t enjoy it as much as I once did,” I shared about my decision in reference to my time on the hit series, Game of Thrones.

Previously known as a child actor, the initial charm had faded away. Earlier, it was merely a pastime shared with friends or a summer activity for amusement. However, now there’s an opportunity to turn it into a career. Jack explained, “I found pleasure in it. When you transform something into your profession, it alters its significance. It’s not about disliking it; it’s more about it not being my desired path.

Having taken a six-year hiatus, I was eager to reclaim my position and in 2020, I gratefully returned to the cast of BBC’s show “Out of Her Mind“. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of featuring in films such as “Rebecca’s Boyfriend” and “In the Land of Saints and Sinners“, along with TV series like “Safe Harbor” and “The Famous Five“.

In September 2020, during Jennifer Aniston’s participation in a virtual table read for “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”, she and her co-actor Kevin Kline, whom they married in 1989, decided to work on separate projects to ensure they were never working simultaneously. This was their strategy to balance caring for their son Owen and daughter Greta (now known as Frankie Cosmos in her music career). They shared this plan in an interview with Playboy.

Whenever it was Phoebe’s turn to work, she consistently decided to stay with the children instead. Despite making a brief appearance in Jennifer Jason Leigh’s 2001 independent film “The Anniversary Party,” Cates primarily dedicates her time to running her New York City boutique, Blue Tree.

During the peak of his popularity with “Ghostbusters” and the TV series “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” the ’80s actor took a break from filmmaking not too long after his wife’s death due to breast cancer in 1991, choosing instead to dedicate himself to raising his children Rachel and Mitchell.

Despite not appearing in a live-action movie since 1997, and declining a cameo in Paul Feig’s 2016 Ghostbusters remake, Rick remains an adored cultural figure. This is evident by the public uproar over reports of his assault while walking in New York City in 2020. Fortunately, fans can rejoice as he will make a comeback, sharing the screen with Josh Gad, in the upcoming Disney reboot Shrunk.

After marrying fashion designer Adam Kimmel in 2010, the star of “Never Been Kissed” suggested that she might be stepping away from acting. She explained to Vogue that most acting roles involve intimate scenes with others, which she is not interested in doing. She compared it to playing with a strange fire and stated that while her relationship can handle it, there needs to be something extraordinary at the end for it to be worth walking through such fire.

Her resolve became firm when son Martin joined older sister Louisanna in 2014, leading her to step away from the movie industry and embrace a new role as primarily a mother and an outsider. This was evident when she expressed her newfound focus on her children during an interview with Us Weekly at a 2016 event. She explained that she assists Kimmel with his business ventures and pursues painting as a hobby, but her main focus is on her kids, which seems to be the primary reason behind her decision to retreat from the entertainment world.

She had watched Ally McBeal, Nip/Tuck, Arrested Development, and Scandal. When the Australian figured out that perhaps it was time for her to make a change.

As I reached my 45th milestone, I found myself pondering – is there an adventure that I’ve yet to embark on, something incredibly demanding and distinctly new? That was the question echoing in my mind during my appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ namesake talk show back in 2018. I had a sense of what my acting journey would unfold for the next decade or two, so I chose to take a leap and shift gears, launching a business instead.

She had only one more item left to complete for her consumer-oriented art company, General Public, which was still under development.

I spoke with Mitch Hurwitz, the genius behind ‘Arrested Development’. I told him that if there’s a fifth season, I won’t participate because I’ve stopped acting. He was very understanding and seemed to grasp the situation well. We had a wonderful chat, and later on, he included me in five episodes.

After earning three Academy Awards, one might wonder what more there is to achieve. Following his sixth Oscar nomination for his final movie, “Phantom Thread” in 2017, the actor announced through his representatives that he would no longer pursue acting roles. He expressed deep gratitude towards all his collaborators and audiences over the years. This decision was a personal one, and neither he nor his team will provide further comments on this matter.

It seemed like Daniel had escaped his involvement, but when October 2024 rolled around, Focus Features revealed that he was set to star in the movie “Anemone” – a film he penned together with his son Ronan Day-Lewis, who would also be directing.

Beginning in 2018, the actress who starred on “Good Luck Charlie” chose to step away from the public eye and instead devoted her time to studying at MIT, where she eventually completed a master’s degree. Subsequently, she continued her academic journey by attending Harvard Law School.

In addition to these accomplishments, I embarked on an exciting journey by founding my very own venture, Northwood Space, in the realm of space technology. Our mission is to construct ground-based satellite stations for efficient data exchange with outer space. As of February 2023, I am proud to serve as the CEO of this innovative brand.
