Heads up – major spoilers ahead! We’re going to discuss the plot of Requiem in detail, so if you haven’t finished the story yet, you might want to watch this later. However, we recommend you do come back, as Requiem lays the groundwork for the future games in the series.
The story seemed to end on a positive note for both Grace and Leon, but a closer look reveals several unresolved issues, particularly concerning the villain, Victor Gideon. While Leon defeated him, we expect Gideon’s past actions will continue to have an impact, extending beyond the immediate story.
So, why are we considering this possibility? Let’s explore how Gideon might play a role in the future of the Resident Evil series.
A Mysterious, Malevolent Man
From our experience with him in Requiem, we quickly learned a lot about Gideon. We first met him during Grace’s kidnapping, and his strangely calm and detached behavior was immediately disturbing. He showed a shocking disregard for others, even infecting innocent people with a virus simply to escape Leon. It was clear from the start that he would be a major problem.
Watching things unfold at the Rhodes Hill Care Center, I really saw a different side to him. He was so strategic, skillfully separating Leon from Grace – it was clear he wanted to isolate his prisoner to make the final capture easier. But even then, I spotted some flaws in his plan. How could he not check Leon for tools after tying him up? It made me wonder if his obsession with finding Elpis made him lose focus on something so basic, like making sure Leon didn’t have a knife!
Despite a momentary setback, he quickly recovered and continued pursuing Grace, even taking her to Raccoon City after she met with Zeno. Gideon appeared content to support the Wesker-impersonator, which left us puzzled – Gideon was clearly capable and did most of the work in their alliance, so why would he take a backseat?
The story reached its climax with Gideon demonstrating both incredible strength and intelligence, along with an almost obsessive devotion to Oswell Spencer. He relentlessly pursued Leon, proving remarkably durable throughout the chase. He easily defeated Zeno with a simple swipe of his newly grown tentacles. Gideon had clearly adapted well to the T-Virus, even using it to evolve into a powerful Nemesis form, which Leon ultimately defeated. However, this final fight left many wondering: who was Gideon truly loyal to?
Shifting Loyalties
Throughout the story, Gideon’s background remains unclear, and the source of his deep understanding of Elpis is never fully explained – we only know he previously worked for Umbrella and then The Connections. Although the story does reveal what Elpis actually is and how it was meant to be used, and that The Connections orchestrated the bombing of Raccoon City to hide its existence at the ARK Lab, Gideon’s motivations remain a mystery.
Was he trying to buy Elpis simply to make a profit, selling it to whoever offered the most money? Was his strong belief in Spencer’s research driving him to uncover its mysteries? And was he hoping to use it to heal himself, to finally get rid of his infection? He’d definitely harnessed his infection to become stronger, but did he secretly despise it, and was that fueling his angry outbursts?

The lack of clear answers to these questions makes us question whether Gideon is truly dead. This doubt is amplified by the post-credits scene, where soldiers from a mysterious group took something after eliminating all the BSAA agents. Was it tissue from Gideon’s powerful Nemesis form, potentially used to revive him? He did demonstrate impressive healing abilities, so it’s a possibility.
It’s obvious Gideon only joined The Connections to achieve a specific objective. However, the purpose of his research remains unclear, especially considering it didn’t seem to benefit the mysterious organization he was involved with. Given that his old Wolf Squad knew precisely where to find Grace and Leon, it’s worth considering if Gideon’s history plays a role in Chris Redfield’s BSAA investigation. While Sherry contacting the BSAA could explain things, Chris’s eagerness to assist might be driven by something deeper. If that’s the case, Gideon is almost certainly connected to it.
His connection to the Umbrella Corporation leads us to believe his story within the game’s universe isn’t over. He uniquely understands the T-virus, allowing him to use its power while avoiding most of its harmful effects – something even experienced organizations like Leon’s team and the BSAA haven’t been able to do as effectively. We suspect Blue Umbrella’s motives for fighting bioterrorism aren’t entirely noble, and we wonder if Victor was secretly pulling the strings, perhaps using their operatives to investigate his past after the main events of the story.
Man, I’m still waiting for some answers about everything that happened, but it’s kinda crazy how Victor Gideon is suddenly getting all the attention. I mean, Grace and Leon just went through a really tough adventure with a pretty good ending, and now he’s the one everyone’s talking about! It’s a bit frustrating, honestly.
A Compelling Character

We think Requiem could have built more suspense with the characters Grace and Leon by keeping their secrets hidden for a longer time. It was pretty clear from the start that Leon had a personal reason to investigate Gideon, which lessened the impact of learning about his situation and that he didn’t have much time left. The reveal felt less shocking because of this.
Grace’s storyline was somewhat more interesting as a new character, although her eventual fate felt predictable, even with the surprise reveal about her connection to Alyssa. While her honesty and resilience were admirable qualities, Gideon was the character audiences were most invested in seeing more of.
We immediately loved this new character. His strange aura, refusal to pick a side, and impressive fighting skills made him both fascinating and a compelling villain – possibly the best one yet in the series.
I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of him, thankfully! Whether he makes a full recovery and shows up again, or we just discover more of his past work, I’m excited to see what happens next. With Grace, Leon, Sherry, and even Chris still investigating what ‘The Connection’ was really doing after Raccoon City fell, there’s so much story left to tell. I even think Emily might be important in the future – maybe she and Gideon have a hidden connection we’ll never expect!
However you view his role in Requiem, Victor Gideon is central to the story. He sparks both current and past events, giving the franchise plenty of material for future stories. While Grace and Leon will continue to investigate these events, Gideon’s actions are what set everything in motion, proving just how well-developed and impactful his character is.
It’s strange to say, but we almost wanted Victor Gideon’s story in Requiem to end. It’s unusual to find ourselves supporting a villain, but Victor has the potential to really shake up the Resident Evil story. He’s too interesting to be sidelined; there’s so much more to explore with his character. Plus, he’s incredibly compelling on screen – his calm demeanor and manipulative nature perfectly fit the world of Resident Evil.
Only time will reveal how accurate our predictions are, but we really hope to see more of Victor Gideon in future Resident Evil installments.
