Why Hilaria Baldwin & Alec Baldwin Are Considering Cross-Country Move

Hilaria Baldwin isn’t dancing around her next move.

Former Dancing With the Stars contestant Hilaria Baldwin shared that she and her husband, Alec Baldwin, are planning to move from New York to the West Coast.

Hilaria recently told Gurus Magazine that she and her family are thinking about leaving the Hamptons. She explained they’re looking for a change of scenery and a fresh start, and are considering moving to Los Angeles.

The couple has been through a lot in recent years, raising their seven children – Carmen, 12, Rafael, 10, Leonardo, 9, Romeo, 7, Eduardo, 5, María, 4, and Ilaria, 2 – while dealing with the aftermath of the 2021 on-set shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during the filming of Rust.

As someone who follows these stories closely, it’s been a really complex time. I was following the legal proceedings regarding the film’s tragic incident, and it was a relief to hear that Alec’s involuntary manslaughter charge was dropped permanently this July. The issue stemmed from accusations that the prosecution hadn’t been fully transparent with all the evidence. It’s worth noting that Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on set, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, but she was released from prison in May.

She remembered worrying during the trial, thinking, “What if Alec doesn’t return home? How would I cope?”

Alec, who shares 30-year-old daughter Ireland with his ex-wife Kim Basinger, and his wife Hilaria were filming their reality show, The Baldwins, while he was on trial. This made it difficult for Hilaria to manage everything while the cameras were rolling.

Looking back, I remember being so frustrated when everything began. Honestly, I was just really worried about my family and felt this huge need to protect them. It fell on me to keep everyone going, to be strong for all of us, and I took that responsibility seriously.

Despite the challenges, Hilaria, 41, adapted as her family navigated life’s ups and downs. She understands that sharing their lives on camera can attract criticism, but she’s learned to accept that comes with the territory.

Hilaria has openly discussed the challenges and joys of their blended family. She’s even shared details about how she built a relationship with Ireland, Alec’s daughter, when they first started dating.

Look, I was so upfront with Alec. I basically told him, ‘If the people in Ireland don’t take to me, I’m out.’ I mean, I have pride, you know? I’m not some animal just trying to claim everything as my own. It’s about being respected, not just… existing there. I need to be wanted.

Luckily, Ireland was glad that Hilaria cha-cha’d her way into Alec’s heart.

Ireland shared on Instagram in September that a woman she describes as delightfully quirky and a little wild saved her father’s life. She completely improved his health and offered him the understanding and support he needed. Ireland also noted that this woman brings out the best in her father, nurturing his kind and loving qualities.

I credit Hilaria with helping me build a strong relationship with my father. Because of her, I have the large family and siblings I’ve always dreamed of. She’s always been accepting, kind, and supportive, embracing me for who I am, flaws and all.

Now, for a look back at Alec and Hilaria’s romance, keep reading.

Alec Baldwin shared with the New York Times that he met Hilaria Thomas at Pure Food and Wine in New York City in February 2011 and immediately gave her his phone number. They spent some time trying to connect for a date, playing phone tag until they were finally able to schedule dinner together.

That August they enjoyed their first US Open together, one of Alec’s favorite events.

Alec first noticed Hilaria at a charity event in October 2011 – the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s benefit at Cipriani Wall Street. They began living together just a month later.

Alec Baldwin and Hilaria were together at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012. He explained that after his divorce, he did a lot of thinking about what he wanted in a relationship and in life. He realized he’d overthought things and wasn’t prepared to start dating again until he met Hilaria.

In April 2012, Alec’s rep confirmed to TopMob News that he and Hilaria were engaged.

Hilaria and Ireland Baldwin often share their close friendship on Twitter. Ireland playfully tweeted she’d be a “flower girl” at a wedding, but she actually served as a bridesmaid.

The couple got married on June 30, 2012, at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in Manhattan, surrounded by their loved ones. The bride looked beautiful in a silk Amsale gown, and the groom wore a Tom Ford tuxedo.

The couple now has seven children: Carmen Gabriela (born August 23, 2013), Rafael Thomas (June 17, 2015), Leonardo Ángel Charles (September 12, 2016), Romeo Alejandro David (May 17, 2018), Eduardo “Edu” Pao Lucas (September 8, 2020), María Lucía Victoria (born February 25, 2021, via surrogacy), and Ilaria Catalina Irena (September 22, 2022).

The whole family will be starring on TLC’s The Baldwins, premiering Feb. 23, 2025.
