Why Hilary Duff Worries Husband Matthew Koma Will Leave Her

It turns out some of Hilary Duff‘s insecurities are what her dreams are made of.

Despite being happily married to Matthew Koma for almost seven years, the singer recently shared that she often has a dream where he’s unfaithful and leaves her for another person.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the 38-year-old expressed a recurring fear: that her husband, Matt, will leave her for a talented, up-and-coming musician he collaborates with.

Hilary was so worried about her husband being unfaithful that she wrote a song about it on her latest album, Luck… or Something. However, Matthew, who worked on the album’s production, insists that “Holiday Party” is just a song and shouldn’t be interpreted any further than that.

After hearing the confession, the 38-year-old musician told Rolling Stone that Hilary’s dream is “both incredibly strange and deeply felt,” and that the issues within it are genuinely emotionally impactful.

Hilary Duff’s new album, releasing on February 20th, explores the themes of motherhood and the thoughts that go along with it. She shares three daughters – Banks, 7, Mae, 4, and Townes, 21 months – with her husband, Matthew, and a 13-year-old son, Luca, with her ex-husband, Mike Comrie.

Oh my gosh, she actually said it! She told Rolling Stone that the whole album was built around her deepest fears and what she worries about constantly. It’s like, everything she’s been through in the last ten years just poured into the music. And she said making it was healing – like it finally felt truly her, and perfectly captured where she is in her life right now. I’m seriously getting chills just thinking about it!

I didn’t want to make an album focused on the everyday struggles of motherhood, like school pickups and packing lunches. That wasn’t the story I wanted to tell. I was more interested in exploring how becoming a mother changed me as a person and how it shifted my feelings.

This also covers the difficulties she’s having with her family, including a reported falling out with her sister, Haylie Duff, and an inconsistent relationship with her father, Bob Duff.

She explained that her relationship with her father is sometimes close and sometimes distant. Despite generally being a positive person, she acknowledged that she’s been through a lot of difficult experiences, which is just part of life.

Hilary Duff explained that she felt she owed it to her fans to be truthful in her song “We Don’t Talk,” which appears to be about her strained relationship with her sister, Haylie, even though they share a family history and upbringing.

It felt similar to going through my divorce in 2015. I handled that privately at the time, but then the news became public and I knew I’d have to revisit those feelings. I had braced myself a little, knowing I’d chosen to include that personal experience in my music. It was a very isolating time, and I wrestled with whether or not to even share it with everyone.

Growing up in the public eye means people are familiar with my life and the people in it, so they understand my references. It was really important to me to be honest about this aspect of my story, because it came from a very personal place.
