Why James Cameron Could Direct a Terminator Reboot After Avatar 3

Rumors are starting to circulate about what director James Cameron will do after the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash. While still finishing that film, he appears to be planning a return to a franchise that launched his career. Details are scarce, but it seems he might be revisiting one of his earliest cinematic universes.

James Cameron to ‘pour’ himself into a new Terminator movie after Avatar 3

Following the release of his latest Avatar film, James Cameron revealed he’s already brainstorming ideas for another Terminator movie. He told Gizmodo he has pages of notes – the way he begins all his screenplays – and plans to write the script himself.

Cameron plans to start writing again once the marketing for Avatar: Fire and Ash wraps up. He mentioned he’ll use the time, likely in about a month, to think about and plan his future projects.

Although Cameron is fascinated by the possibilities, he recognizes that technology is advancing so quickly it’s becoming overwhelming. He pointed out that science fiction is now reality, and we’re facing problems that used to only exist in books and movies. We’re now living through those scenarios in real life.

Cameron acknowledged how hard it is to predict what will happen with technology changing so quickly. He said he doesn’t think anyone can accurately foresee the future, even just a year or two from now, and admitted he wasn’t as good at predicting things today as he was in 1984. However, he wants to prepare for what’s coming by staying ahead of the curve.

Cameron is also exploring several other film projects, such as a movie about atomic bombs in World War II and an adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s novel, The Devils. Plus, two more Avatar sequels are in the works. The next installment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is scheduled to be released on December 19th.
