Why Jamie Lee Curtis Is Taking a Digital Detox

Jamie Lee Curtis isn’t telling any true lies—she’s taking a break from social media.

Okay, so, my absolute idol just announced this, and I’m still reeling! She said, basically, she’s DONE with the internet for the holidays! Can you believe it? This Oscar-winning queen is taking a break from everything online. It’s like she’s finally realized how exhausting it all is, and honestly, good for her! I’m a little sad I won’t see her posts, but I totally get it and support her 100%. It’s amazing, she’s just… amazing!

Jamie Lee announced to TopMob News at the Los Angeles premiere of Ella McCay on December 9th that she’s planning a significant break from technology. She said she’s going to disconnect from the internet and social media for a while to fully recharge.

The 67-year-old is very happy to see countries like Denmark and Australia taking steps to shield children from the negative effects of social media. These countries recently implemented a ban on social media for users under 16, starting December 10th.

Honestly, when I heard they were doing this, I almost screamed! It’s just… amazing. And I have to support it, completely and utterly. I mean, I can’t just say I’m a fan, I need to actually show it, you know? I need to live it!

The actress from Everything Everywhere All At Once explained that she only uses social media for professional purposes and to support others. However, she’s decided to stop using it at the end of the year, as she needs a break.

Even though Jamie Lee is using social media less, she still wants to be there for her friends. Seeing them succeed actually makes her incredibly happy and excited.

I always get really excited and cheer loudly when good things happen to others. If someone works hard and achieves something positive, I can’t help but celebrate with them!

Emma shared with TopMob that she and her colleague instantly connected and supported each other. She described a close, collaborative relationship where they consistently encouraged and uplifted one another, which she found incredibly motivating and positive.

Before the movie Ella McCay comes out in theaters on December 12th, here’s a look back at some candid comments Jamie Lee has made over the years.

With rumors swirling about a possible romance between Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson, Jamie Lee Curtis was quick to defend them against any criticism.

In August 2025, the actress from Everything Everywhere All At Once told VT that if love exists between two people, everyone should respect their privacy. She said, ‘Let them be happy together.’ She also noted that both individuals have faced challenges and deserve kindness, as they are both wonderful people.

And she further took a moment to heap praise on her Last Showgirlcostar Anderson.

Curtis also praised her character, saying, ‘She’s not only a fantastic actress, but a genuinely beautiful person.’

The actress, whose parents were the late Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, has been open about how watching their careers evolve influenced her perspective on lasting success in Hollywood. This has made her more thoughtful and selective about the roles she chooses.

In a July 2025 interview with The Guardian, Curtis explained that he’s been preparing to leave the entertainment industry to avoid the fate of his parents. He wants to step away on his own terms, before he’s forced out. He saw firsthand how his parents lost everything – their career, their passion, and their income – when the industry moved on from them as they got older.

She also doesn’t want to experience that same kind of pain. She explained that she saw someone achieve great success, only to watch it gradually disappear. “And that’s really heartbreaking,” she said.

Jokingly referring to her long career, Jamie Lee Curtis playfully calls herself an ‘old lady’ and adds with a laugh that she doesn’t have much time left.

She’s very dedicated to her bedtime routine, which is why she’s hesitant about going to an evening concert. She even has an idea she wants to share with musicians.

In March, Curtis appeared on Today and proposed a new idea for concerts: daytime shows. He wondered why there aren’t more matinee performances, explaining that while he’s a big fan of bands like Coldplay, he wouldn’t attend a concert that starts late at night with an opening act. He’d much prefer to see a show, like Coldplay, at 1 p.m.

As for how the Academy Award winner wants to turn this dream into a reality?

She believes that if they held a Coldplay matinee concert and filled a stadium with fans, it would likely become a popular trend.

The star of Freaky Friday showed her California roots by leaving the Oscars early to get some fast food from a popular West Coast restaurant.

In March 2024, Curtis shared a playful Instagram post detailing her plans: get pampered, attend the Oscars, grab a burger at In-and-Out, and then travel onward. She marked each step with a checkmark emoji.

After openly criticizing a recent period of Marvel movies as “bad,” the Knives Out actress said she wished she hadn’t made those comments about the superhero franchise.

In August 2024, Curtis apologized for her previous critical comments about Marvel’s Doctor Strange films, which she’d made while promoting her movie Everything Everywhere All at Once. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she stated she had contacted Marvel’s Kevin Feige and would refrain from participating in online negativity or attention-seeking behavior, prioritizing meaningful discussion over clicks and publicity.

While filming the 1985 movie Perfect with John Travolta, Curtis had a revealing experience with cosmetic procedures after receiving a critical comment from the film’s cinematographer.

She recalled him saying, “I’m not filming her today; she has puffy eyes,” during a May interview on 60 Minutes. She explained that, being 25 at the time, she found his comment deeply embarrassing and subsequently had plastic surgery after the movie wrapped.

She explained that making that decision wasn’t ideal at that age, and she instantly regretted it – a feeling that has lingered ever since.

And it influenced the way she views cosmetic enhancements.

Curtis shared that she started publicly encouraging women to embrace their natural beauty and self-worth. However, she later realized this wasn’t the best course of action for her personally.
