Why JoJo Siwa Says She’s Hannah Montana IRL

JoJo Siwa takes it slow before she rocks out the show.

The former Dance Moms star revealed she has a private life that people aren’t aware of, similar to how she looked up to Hannah Montana growing up.

JoJo recently told Erin Lim Rhodes of TopMob News’ The Rundown that she used to have a very consistent look when she was younger – always a side ponytail and a bow. She explained that, even back then, she wouldn’t have dressed up or worn so much hair and makeup if she was just going out in public.

“So, no one necessarily spots me,” she added. “But if I go like this, it’s a trap.”

JoJo recently revisited some of her iconic looks in her “I’m Still Dancin'” music video, including the bedazzled oversized jersey and orange sneakers she wore while out as Hannah Montana. Fans are also curious about which of JoJo’s different personalities her boyfriend, Chris Hughes, likes best.

“I think he likes who I am now,” JoJo said. “I would imagine.”

Despite being a former Nickelodeon star, she explained that she’s actually a pretty normal person when she’s not working. She also revealed that the popular Disney Channel show had a huge impact on her career, even more than people might think.

She explained that growing up, Hannah Montana heavily influenced her songwriting. For example, her childhood song ‘High Top Shoes’ was based on ‘Old Blue Jeans,’ and ‘Everyday Popstars’ took inspiration from ‘Rockstar.’

JoJo’s success as a musician isn’t just luck. She recently shared that she works with the same songwriters as Miley Cyrus.

The former Celebrity Big Brother UK contestant also revealed that many of the same songwriters worked on both their music. Specifically, the person who wrote hits like ‘Rockstar’ and ‘True Friend,’ as well as several popular songs by Hannah, also wrote many of JoJo’s songs, including her new single, ‘Serendipity’.

Being famous has its perks, but JoJo’s favorite moment was definitely meeting her idol, Miley, before the 20th anniversary special of their Disney show. The special will be available to stream on Hulu and Disney+ starting March 24th.

She freely admitted to being a huge fan of Miley, saying she didn’t even try to hide her excitement. She just wanted Miley to know how much she admired her.

She added, “I will never play it cool with you.”
