Kelly Clarksonis dissecting her love life, piece by piece.
Approximately three years since the divorce between the former contestant of American Idol and Brandon Blackstock was finalized, she openly shared her reasons for temporarily refraining from romantic relationships.
Kelly humorously expressed that dating can be extremely challenging for her during her Studio Sessions residency on July 20th in Las Vegas, as captured in a fan’s TikTok video. She likened the complexity of dating to adding a spotlight, making it feel like an uncontrollable blaze, much like a dumpster fire.
She hadn’t reached that conclusion only recently. In another episode of the show on TikTok, the 43-year-old (who is a parent to River Rose, 11, and Remington Alexander, 9, with Brandon) mentioned her struggles in relationships that began in her 20s, when she was trying to navigate love while under public scrutiny. And, much like her songwriting talent suggests, Kelly drew from this complex journey for her 2015 hit single, “Tightrope.
Over time, if you’re with someone, there’s a chance you might grow in the same way, but it can feel like a struggle, like a tug of war,” she explained. “It’s tough, especially when it’s not the right fit. You find yourself wondering, ‘Is it supposed to be this challenging?’ And that’s what this song is about – we all face difficult situations sometimes, and it’s just not fair.
On multiple occasions, the actress known for “Love So Soft” has disclosed her thoughts on dating following her divorce. Most recently, she confided in Jenna Bush Hager that she’s focusing on achieving balance in her life, and finding a new partner isn’t necessarily her top priority every time.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: “I’m openly stating that I’m not actively seeking anything new at the moment. My days are overflowing, and you can relate if you’re a mom. Between juggling my own work commitments and keeping up with my kids’ hectic schedules – from school to sports practices – it feels like I’ve got a non-stop marathon on my hands.
Meanwhile, as she manages multiple tasks simultaneously, her mother, Jeanne Taylor (the one who single-handedly raised Kelly and her two other siblings) is providing encouragement throughout her journey.
She often reminds me, ‘See, I raised you on my own without having everything perfect. They can manage. After all, look at how well you turned out.’ She emphasizes this to show that she’s there for them, and together, they form a sweet, compact family.
