There’s a new viral baby animal taking over the internet.
In July, the Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard, Kansas unveiled Mars, the diminutive hippopotamus, who quickly gained fame worldwide following a popular video showing his humorous antics.
On TikTok, a keeper tries to coax the miniature hippo out of its pool. Following a gentle push or two, Mars remains seated in the water instead. Eventually, he exits the pool, only to dash back in shortly after.

On TikTok, a caretaker encourages their tiny hippo to leave the pool. After a few prods, Mars chooses to stay submerged for a while. Upon finally getting out, he quickly returns and jumps right back in.
Telling Mars it’s pool time vs. his mom telling him it’s pool time.” And they concluded with the humorous reminder, “Always listen to mom!
In my enthusiastic fervor, I found myself drowning in a sea of like-minded admirers, each one overflowing with praise for the enchanting prose about the lovable hippos. One could hardly contain their excitement, exclaiming, “Simply outstanding, now I find myself yearning for a baby hippo!” Another added to the chorus, “And here I thought animals couldn’t get any cuter than this – oh, how wrong I was when it comes to baby creatures!
Mars got the attention of moms from across the globe who could relate to Poise.
“She gave him the look,” one user commented, “Apparently he only listens to mama.”
As a die-hard fan, I’d rephrase it in a way that captures the excitement and enthusiasm typical of fans: “Just like any other moms, they called out to their sons with a sense of urgency, one shouted, ‘Mars Potato Jones, hop out of that water immediately!’ while another exclaimed, ‘Time to get your rear end moving… nowww!!'”.
Mars captured the interest of Kylie Kelce, who is quite knowledgeable when it comes to nurturing children. On her podcast, Not Gonna Lie, Kylie – mom to Wyatt (5), Elliotte (4), Bennett (2), and Finnley (4 months) with husband Jason Kelce – discussed her understandable response to Poise’s “mom gaze”.
His mother gave him a stern look, she joked, and I’d rate that as top-notch maturity. In fact, it was quite impressive how she walked all the way to the poolside to fetch him, as if to say, ‘Look at how far I had to come to get you. You’d better shape up!’
Kylie chimed in, “It’s wonderful how it transcends species boundaries.” She explained, “It’s not exclusive to humans; it seems to be a universal trait shared among mothers everywhere.
Mars has been delighting many online with demonstrations of his newly acquired talents such as walking, consuming solid foods, and even appearing to listen attentively. In a TikTok video posted on August 28th, the wildlife center showcased Mars’ ability to walk confidently without losing balance while dining with Poise.
In the video, Mars follows his mother as she starts eating, later consuming food from her plate himself. The caption indicates that “Mars has grown up quite a bit.
