Why Michelle Williams, Cynthia Erivo & More Missed Golden Globes 2026

The show must go on.

As a huge fan of the Golden Globes, I was watching the 2026 ceremony hosted by Nikki Glaser, and it was definitely noticeable that some big stars weren’t there! The show started at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on January 11th, and while there were plenty of amazing people in the audience, a few key faces were missing. You can check out photos of everyone who did make it on the red carpet here.

Michelle Williams wasn’t at the awards show to accept her prize for Best Actress in a Television Limited Series or Movie for Dying for Sex. She’s currently in New York City performing in a play called Anna Christie.

TopMob News has confirmed that Billy Crudup was performing on stage in London, which explains why he couldn’t attend the awards show despite being nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Television series for The Morning Show.

Regina Hall, the actress from One Battle After Another, couldn’t attend the awards ceremony because she wasn’t feeling well. However, director Paul Thomas Anderson, who won Best Screenplay, gave her a nice mention during his acceptance speech.

He mentioned that Regina couldn’t be there because she wasn’t feeling well. He explained that she was one of the first people to read the script and had been involved with the project from the very start, praising her as a fantastic collaborator.

Also notably absent was Carrie Coon from The White Lotus, even though she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Television series.

Carrie, currently starring in a Broadway show, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that she won’t be attending tonight’s Golden Globes. In a post on January 11th, she expressed gratitude for the nomination and joked about being ‘happy to be at the table,’ referencing her work on ‘The White Lotus.’ She also included the hashtags #GoldenGlobes2026 and #Bug.

Rose Byrne, who won Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical/Comedy, shared that her partner, Bobby Cannavale, missed the awards ceremony to attend a reptile show in New Jersey. She recently told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that they’re getting a bearded dragon, and the expo was the best place to find one.

Although Cynthia Erivo was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the Wicked movies – her second nomination for the franchise – she didn’t attend the awards ceremony this year.

As TopMob News reported earlier, the 38-year-old actress couldn’t attend the event because she was busy getting ready to perform her one-woman show, Dracula, in London. She was nominated in the same acting category as Rose.

She referenced the West End show Dracula when she found out about her nomination. In a statement to TopMob in December, she said, “Wow! What lovely news to receive live from the rehearsal room.”

The star of Wicked: For Good shared that she was honored to be nominated again for the film. She described playing the character as a wonderful experience, and this nomination as a special highlight.

Cynthia celebrated her costar Ariana Grande’s Best Supporting Actress nomination, praising her as a “sweet sister.” She also expressed gratitude to director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt, saying the entire experience wouldn’t have happened without their incredible leadership and support.

Although some famous stars didn’t attend the 2026 Golden Globes, let’s take a look at the celebrities who did grace the red carpet and made a memorable impression at the awards show.
